Does anyone use the graphite coated canvas on the face of their platen for flat grinding. Supposed to cut down on chatter and help the belt and platen hold up better. How did you affix it to your platen? I just got some with an order of belts to put on the platen of my BII. Ken

I use the glue i put my sheaths together with, but contact cement works better....I use the stuff cause i bought a bunch, but it wears pretty darn fast in my opinion...way too fast and then it isnt flat anymore... so what im saying is i think its junk!!!! I will add...that it works great right at first.

Ive seen mention of having a section of glass with radiused edges attached to the platen.

Any comments or information?

Just got my grizzly set up. i thought the graphite was neat. You can't truly flat grind on it.You can do a pretty good semi convex.I took the canvas off and put a piece of 5160 that was to hard to drill with regular bits(Supposed to be aneald)on in its place.Just bolted it on.IT wasn't flat either. After a lot of filing I got it flat. It does a super flat grind now. Buy only butt spliced belts they aren't quite as bad.

I've been useing the graphite/canvas for the last couple of weeks. It hasn't groved as yet but with the replys I expect it to make groves soon. It does seem to run cooler than the steel and makes using magnets to hold the knives easier.
