My fellow forumites,

It is with a heavy heart that I write this message, for I know that "Uncle" Bill Martino's reputation for providing a quality, hand-crafted product is unimpeachable. Or, rather, I thought it was unimpeachable until the other day.

In an emailed discussion with him, he made a statement that startled me so severely that i was certain it could not be correct. I had to go back to the forum, use the search function, and see for myself that he had, in fact, admitted this damaging fact on bladeforums, publically, several times.

Mr. Martino (for no longer shall I call you 'Uncle'), you have disappointed me. When i think of Himilayan Imports, I think of a quality, hand-made, individually crafted and unique artifact...something with character and integrity, not some mass-produced, mediocre quality, over-marketed commercialized swill. How can I believe in you when you make damning statements like this:

"I drink Heineken."

Oh, Mr. Martino. In this day and age, how dare you? Have you no pride? We are blessed with a resurgance of traditional brewing and a proliferation of microbrews- beers with character and honesty. How can you, a purveyor of fine-crafted knives drink anything less than a similar-quality brew? I am shocked, sir.

But I do not think it is too late. I think that each of us has to do his part to make you see the light. Jaeger has started the mission- he is sending you some Yuengling, a worthy beer. I call upon each of your comrades on Bladeforums to do the same...send Bill some beer.

Not just any beer, but good beer.

He's old. So there might not be much time. Send it now. Before it's too late.

Mike

Mike, I hate to admit it but I am a creature of habit. I started drinking Heineken during a visit to Amsterdam when I was a young man and I have been on it ever since. However, I am not adverse to interspersing it with other beverages. In Nepal I often drank the local home brews, thumba, chang, aila (Newari white lightening and powerful stuff) Khukuri rum, Star, Iceberg and Golden Eagle beer along with an occasional Johnny Walker black with soda.

I have a customer in Tennessee where they know how to do such things and he sent me 24 bottles of home brew of his own making. It lasted about 3 days and then I was back on the Heineken. So, I applaud your suggestion of forumites sending beer. I welcome any and all and will retaliate with discounts and other goodies and I guarantee if it is not poison I will drink it. The forumites can save me from myself.

I expect a 'finders fee' for every case you receive.

Bill, did you inspect all the khukuries before or after drinking the Heineken?

Also, do you know what the perfect formula for a beautiful Girl is? 2 long Island Iced Tees, 1 vodka on the rocks, gin and tonic, a shot of Jack Daniels and top it off with a 44 ounce margarita on an empty stomach in the span of 5 minutes...WALLA, pretty girl.

Mike, do a search also on Zippo's. I would have expected Bill to light his smokes in the traditional manner with flint and chakma.

My formula for pretty girls is too simply take off my glasses. The first time I got glasses I quickly discovered how over active my imagination really was.

Ghostsix, I have been waiting for you to send me a sample.

Will, if it took a flint and chakma to light a cigarette I'd do it. I am hopelessly addicted to nicotine -- 50 years! My father has been a heavy smoker for 75 years and still consumes a carton per week. My only hope is I have the same genetics.

I inspected the village khukuris after the Heineken because they are so ugly. But they were not ugly enough to use your beautiful girl formula. If I drank that much it would not matter whether the girl was beautiful or not. I would be down for the count and probably the night!

I don't know if it's available in the US but I would recommend "Victoria Bitter". Not only is it a fine Australian beer, it's also a 'tactical' beverage as it's abreviated form - VB - translates easily into phoenetics.

Many a time I have sent a radio message back to camp to request a "Victor Bravo".

Andre

I'll be waiting, Mike, and as promised will drink it.

Andre, as you probably know better than most, a fair number of "Aussies" visit Nepal. I met several, drank with them at various bars, and always introduced them to the local Nepali beer and Khukuri rum. I found them to be great drinkers and very good company.

The only Australian beer I see in Reno is Fosters but I will keep an eye open for VB.
