Hi yall

Im traveling to new york city and im wondering if my emerson cqc-7 is going to be concidered a gravity knife. New York knife law prohibits gravity knives, but is my emerson concidered such since i can flip it open.

Under NY State law if centrifugal force can be used to open the knife it is considered a gravity knife. I would tighten the pivot like Rat suggested and keep the knife concealed. Also be aware that some tourist attractions may have metal detectors.

The knife must be under 4" blade, not carried visible to the public ( it must be in your pocket not clipped top it or in a pouch on your belt), it also can NOT be flicked open anyway possible. Judges even allow the officer to flick open the knife by holding the top of the blade and flicking the handle open !! I have several knives with heavy stag handles that all open this way. The rest of NY state does not seem to be anywhere near as bad as NYC even though NYC is enforceing New york state law reguarding gravity knives. Metal detectors are used at several locations these days. They have no right ever to confiscate a legal knife, and security officers ( with very few exceptions) do not have police powers in NY and they rarely know the knife laws.....
