Gravity knives and switchblades

I am well versed in the NYS laws, but in reading the Federal Laws, it would seem that what NY and most states call "gravity knives" are classfied as Switchblades, in that if you can open open the knife by gravity or cintrifcal force it is a switchblade under the federal definition. It does not even have to lock open as is required by NYS law. I believe that the knife being viewed at that time was a TRUE gravity knife ( a German Parattooper style) but this definition makes almost all folders switchblades, once they can be flicked open.....what do you fellow collectors think?????
