Gray powder-coated blades: utility and modestly tactical

I don't know about yall, but I am starting to like gray coated blades more and more. They don't scream tactical, but the coating still cuts down on the reflection of the blade and also protects it, so it could be used in a tactical application. A gray coated blade looks more like a utility knife than a black coated one, so the knife doesn't scare the socks off people in public. I also don't want to be staring at a black colored blade all the time because its so common. I feel that gray can be tactical, and also be less frightening in public. It also seems like a breath of fresh air from all the black coated blades on the market these days. What are your thoughts on this subject? I realize it probably seems unimportant to some people, but to others it may matter.

I'm not sure I have seen a gray blade yet. But what is wrong with an uncoated blade? Some finishes look pretty darn gray like some stone washed blades. And they aren't all that reflective, though I'm not sure how that plays into the functionality of a knife. I would never carry a knife for use as a weapon, but if I did I think I would want it to stand out so the bad guy might be intimidated. If you don't want them to see it then I would think it would be pretty easy to keep it out of sight until the knife is put to use.

I guess I have never seen much point in coated blades, especially when most everything is stainless these days. They just end up scratched and worn for the most part if the knife sees much use. I guess I like the features of a knife and how it works and I'm not very concerned with how the knife looks. Since I don't really get it, wouldn't different handle colors be just as appealing as different blade coating colors?

I like uncoated blades, but for my "beat the crap out if me knives" i like a coating to protect the blade, because i prefer high carbon steels. Tops knives has a selection of gray powder coated outdoors/camp specific knives. Entrek also does gray coatings which I like alot. Thank you for the post.

I do like different color options in coatings.

Jungle green, and a grey.

Busse KzII, and B11.
