Hey i was hoping for some input on the grayman dua? It looks like a killer knife but would like to know about some experiences with them. Also i am confused are they custom knives or not? Looking to get a beefy ti folder to go along with my crk's to handle some rougher work and i am really attracted to the design.

So what do guys think of them?

Nevermind.... i just did some research and i decided i will not be buying one.

Give a look at Three Sisters Forge Beast. It's a great knife--basically a beefier CRK.

prob the owners reputation, soured me too. of course i will still own one , ive got one on the way for a trade. that being said ive heard nothing but good things about their preformance or their customer service. i own a strider too:rolleyes: if i was a service member or knew about the bs way in advance i probably would have stuck with customs but hey everyone has made mistakes some people just make big ones ON the internet. hopefully they have lived and learned. i buy knives based on preformance and warranty.

May I ask what changed your mind?

Yes his past actions really turned my off the knife. I do not doubt its a great knife but i believe my money is better of other places.

I agree that people should be forgiven but i noticed his name wasnt on his site which i thought was also shady i guess. Which makes me feel like he wants to avoid the issue. I dont know if i am correct in this assumption but its how i see it. Stuff does seem to come to become a bigger deal on the web doesnt it.

I've got no experience with the Dua but the Satu is an amazing knife. I highly recommend Grayman's work

an xm-18 3" wouldnt be a bad call either, but for the money prob 3 sisters forge. also just for the record i believe the grayman s are considered MID-TECH not custom but i could be wrong.

yes it does and yes not putting his name on his site kinda skirts being a man and owning his mistakes. your well within your rights on walking away there are alot of diff makers out there with quality products, but i am excited for my DUA. you better post pics of whatever you get :p

I think they're a solid knife, with good f&f using high-end materials. I just don't like the way they look.

Grayman produce some great knives, I've handled both the Dua & Satu.

The Dua is a sweet knife but I prefer the larger size of the Satu.

The only downside would be when sharpening, since sharpening recurve can be a bit of a pain.

I'm also curious on what changed your mind about purchasing one???

Like expwmbat mentioned checking out a TSF Beast is also a great choice.

I have one of his original Beasts in S35VN and I absolutely love it, incredibly smooth folder.

The earlier models have a slightly different overall design, and I like mine a lot more than the current model.

The handle is slightly shorter and rounded near the back, rather than squared off.

And also the blade actually angles/cants upward as it flows away from the handles, rather than the current model which flows downward clip point style.

It all comes down to personal preference, but I can't say enough good things about the products Jim puts out.

SWEEETT! Its a 3-4 week wait for the beast but i just got on the list. :D Thanks for the help/input, i believe i will be very happy with this one. Ill post some picks on arrival.

I'm not familiar with his past reputation, and would be interested in knowing if someone would PM me some information. However, I know that many people have great things to say about the knives he produces. They're strong, well built, and made for use. A Dua has been on my wishlist for a while.

I've had two Grayman DUA's and two TSF Beasts. Both are excellent folders. The (orange) Dua fits my large hand size better and so that's my preference. It's S30V and the Beasts are available in a nice selection of steels, including the excellent M390. The M390 steel will take a longer-lasting edge, but there are always choices to make in picking a blade-steel. The Beast does NOT have jimping on the blade due to the relative position of the thumb-stud.
I've included a pic here that shows the various folders, plus they are pictured next to small and large Sebenzas, and Umnumzaan, for reference. My large Sebbie 25 bites me often; forgive the bloody handle.

AND...I don't select folders based upon personalities and/or personal reputations, or past grievances. I hear, all too often, about Strider and his military past, about Chris Reeve and his mean nature during the last Blade Show and previous moments. If I bought folders based upon that, I'd have to eliminate CRK and Strider, which would be sheer stupidity, as they are at the top of my personal heap.

Could someone enlighten me on Grayman's controversial past? Seems quite a few knifemakers have one. :(

the long and short of it from my understanding is he lied about being in a particular group of military service SAS (i think)as well as his "combat record". his name is up on their wall of shame for being a fraud and cashing in on others sacrifice and honor to sell product. for details google grayman knife lies, you will find something im sure, that s what i did. im getting one all the same but it has led other people far away like the op

I also believe in forgiveness. If Grayman and Strider have come clean about there pasts, and are on a better path of ethical business practices, then I could possibly consider their products.

As a veteran, though, I find it hard to overlook their particular transgressions.

As far as CRK, he may not be the most amiable person, but I've never heard of any unethical behavior on his part, so I have no problem with doing business with him.

So it all boils down to what you as an individual will tolerate while supporting a particular business.
