Grayman Knives

The article was over the top to say the least. The statements that bothered me concerned the fact that he designed for Mercworx but thought that after he abused the hell out of them they ended up scratched up and looking more like he had ground them himself. So he started just grinding them himself.

Now I havent been making knives for long compared to many makers on this forum but if I screw up a grind or there is a blattant imperfection in blade grind, handle fit or finish, I toss it! The arctile states that you may recieve any of these from said knives. Now, this doesnt sound like custom knife quality to me. However they also say his knives are very reasonable in price, so if he is a great designer who is still getting his skills down in the production department then maybe said imperfections are not really a big deal.

I would love to hear from someone who has one as well. I have no doubt they are tough, but is that really that impressive? There are plenty of tough knives out there with great fit n finish and even more knives out there designed by "combat experts". I am not knocking Grayman knives, just curious about the points I mentioned.

I own one, a Mega Pounder actually and the reason I like it, it's because I don't care about it...it was made for one thing only and it's to get beat. It's a good chopper, it's tought for sure but it's not a piece of art. Also for what it is, it's a bit pricey but I know I'm gonna have that piece of steel for ever, it will never let me down!!! Hey don't you think that last sentence would make a great moto for Grayman...:) Cheers!!!

Grayman knives are ugly!
Grayman knives stay sharp!, and are easy to sharpen!
Grayman knives are well thought out in design!
Grayman knives are not refined!
Grayman knives are great!!!
I have two and love them both. For the price they can't be beat and the people at Grayman are some of the best I have ever dealt with.
Try one and you'll understand.

Thanks for the information. I ordered the West Nile Warrior. When it gets here I will beat the hell out of it and see how it holds up.

I have the Darfur Defender and a Defender variant. I had a Megapounder but sold it, it was just too heavy for me.
The Grayman knives are made to be used and just by looking at them you can tell. They arent pretty & finish is lacking. If your going to beat the H377 out of it, you dont need that. Thats why I like them. The handles are a bit square, sand them down a little they feel great!
Hes a great guy too. Answered all my emails and was very friendly. His warranty is top notch even though I have never had to use it. Customer service goes a long way for me.

I'm looking very hard at the Suenami. And the Grax. I've been back/forth on the Kershaw ZT0121 for a while, and that Suenami is a little more to my liking (1095 instead of S30v).

I love my Dinka. Had it about a week and am thrilled with it.

I am very happy with the strength of this knife and the quality of the sheath. Super utilitarian. I needed to sharpen it, because it had not been honed smooth, but finished on a wheel instead that only took a few minutes due to the quality of the steel

Pros:

Blade strength looks to be ginormous.
Black GunKote finish also seems to be very solid
Grips are solidly attached and fitted carefully to the tang
Sharpened quickly without using a steel.
Nice engraving on the tang with name and slogan
Sheath holds knife in place even when unsnapped
Really prompt shipping and communication.

Cons:

I misjudged the size of the grip and need to be careful with finger placement when bare handed.
I probably should have ordered the optional gator grip.

So overall, I think this is a great knife for a reasonable price and I will have it for the rest of my life . . .

They sound pretty good, but for less money you could get a knife with better steel, good fit and finish, just as tough (probably more tough), and the same warranty from Ranger knives. Just my opinion.

What he said. I own a grayman. If you want a safequeen then Mikes knives are not the way to go. But if you want something that you can use and abuse constantly then Grayman knives are the way to go

I've owned several and still own Grayman knives. My favorite is the Mega Pounder 9.

I own the Suenami 7 and it's a beast! I use it for what it's made for, which is HARD use. it holds and edge and so far still looks amazing considerign what I've put it through. I highly recommend!

TRUTH, every word.

They are a midtech. I have a Full Ti Satu and it is flawless. It is huge and tough. I would recommend a Satu to any body.

The Satu and Dua appear to be bargains for the quality materials, design, and workmanship that you get for the price. This value is apparent only when you compare them to similar knives and not on the whole. I have never personally owned one, but haven't heard anything bad about them either.
