I, looking for a new big knife to replace an axe during one to three day pack trips. I have narrowed it down to three knives
1, Grayman Sub-Saharan 8
2. Mineral Mountain Bullnoser
3. Busse Gemini, light Brigade Series

I am leaning toward the Mineral Mountain Bullnoser because of the price and the fact that I have heard good things a bout the 5160 spring steel. I do like the other knives and I am not worried about the price difference right now. Please let me know what you think. Thanks for the input

You may also want to check out some short machetes from OKC, Ka-Bar, and the like. Barring that, maybe try to grab a Scrapyard 1311 from Ebay or the for sale forums. They are a beast.

I've also held the Gemini and swung it around a bit, but it didn't feel like it would be a good chopper. From most everything I've seen here on the forums, the best choppers are generally 10" or longer in blade length. They will chop much faster, which will save you a lot of energy, time, and aggravation. On top of that, you can pair it with a smaller blade for general utility.

The main sticking point with 7-8" blades is that they don't do any one thing particularly well. "Jack of all trades, master of none," so to speak. They'll definitely get the job done (whatever it may be), but not as well as ones that were purposefully designed for specific tasks.

I don't have experience with the first two you listed but the Busse TGLB is an excellent all-around blade.

The new Survive GSO-10 with the CMP-3V steel looks like it could be a contender for you.

I have a TGLB and like it a lot. I can't see using the Sub-Saharan ever. That grind would make me crazy and, from my experience, that top sharpened edge would only be a burden for a camping knife.

Bigger is definitely better in terms of blade length. Something with a 9"-10" blade is the minimum that I'd recommend. Sure, you can chop with a smaller knife but why strain yourself?... ;):D

Thanks for the info guys. I did some research and pre ordered the survive GSO 10. Can't wait to get it.
