Howdy,

Long time enthusiast here but new to care and maintenance. As of now I am in the process of gathering the necessary tools and materials to start disassembling my knives to thoroughly clean and care for them. In the meantime I have started conducting research on how to disassemble my knives and in the process I learned of torsion bars. I have a few Kershaws that I am confident have these devices to be more specific. I learned that there is grease in and around the torsion bar and associated parts but did not find any information as to what type of grease to use. If you can point me in the right direction as to what to use and any other information for noobs I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you in advance!

Basic grease will do the trick. Basic meaning the cheap black stuff. But its smells. I use red n tacky grease. White lithium grease it good too. Any auto part store sells grease in a tub or tube. The tub will last you a life time.

Ive ran my torsion bar dry and it really doesnt affect performance but the bar rattles around in the handle.

Rub a little grease on the washers before you put them back.

^^^ Go with the tub of Lithium Grease... Also, if there is no problem with the knife, why dissemble it?
Not Broken, Don't fix it!;)

The grease on the torsion bar isn't a necessity, I've added it to some of mine just because otherwise they can rattle a little. There is little if any difference in performance with it.

As for the grease I used, I've used white lithium, petroleum jelly, and a little Krazy Grease. No difference in performance between the 3.
