Do you usually grease or oil your pivots?

I feel like grease would definitely make it more smooth of an opener, but it will attract too much pocket lint.:thumbdn:

Grease probably would slow down an assisted depending on the grease and how much was used.

A little bit of grease stays put ..... oil runs through the knife.

So if you use to much oil it will attract more dirt.

I use dry lube because I don't like lint stickingto grease or oil.

i use the crk fluorinated grease, but i only use it because i got it in a trade with my small seb. before that i used 3in1 oil.

I'm a firm believer that clean and light is better. Keep it clean, lube it lightly (with oil or a better quality grease that's made for knives). You'll be fine.

I would love to know more about dry-lubing knives. Any links?

Tri-Flow is a dry lube. Put it on, work the pivot a few times, wipe off any excess. The liquid carrier evaporates and leaves dried lube in place. You don't need very much.

I use Inox, which may be sold in Austraila only(?), it's a great product and works very well on pivots!

I tried Tuf-Glide, a dry lub, and it made my SAK feel like it was galling so I didn't use it on any other knives.

Does anyone else use Tuf-Glide? How do you find it?

Excellent advice, Dave. I have received more than a few knives in trade that were severely over-lubed and, as a result, gunked-up with accumulated debris. I have had a few guys trade me their knives because they thought the knife was too hard to open. But once disassembled, cleaned, and properly (i.e. lightly) lubed with CRK fluo grease, they were smoooth and easy.

Bottom line, when it comes to lubing with quality grease, less is more!

Depends on the knife. On a knife with flat washers I'll use CRK grease. On an IKBS, Roller Thrust Bearing, OTF auto, S/A auto, or Assisted knife I use a bit of Tri-Flow.

OK, off the topic but not really. This is for all the bladesmiths & knife guys. Has anyone ever tried using graphite at the pivots/joints ? I built custom slot cars back in the day when 8 to 12 lane tracks & racing centers were all over the U.S. You could not find any kind of longer lasting lubricant that could compare to graphite.
Will it work, will it stay in place, will it just fall out, etc. ? Just thinking a little off the wall / out of the box. Thanks for any replies.
Be safe.
