hey all.

I inherited a lot of knives from my father when he passed away 10 years ago, and a lot of them were easy to identify and get some history on, but there is one set that I cannot find much about. I have got tons of knives that are boxed and say "Great American Story Knives" made by Boker Tree Brand Knives. these knives are also titled with various themes such as the one in front of me now, "July 4, 1976." blades and etched with the same title. I don't see dates anywhere on the boxes or the knives, but the blade tangs do have stampings.

hopefully someone here has experience with this same set.

I will be away on vacation for a while, so I won't be able to read/respond to anything for a while, but I would very thankful if someone here could shed some light on this set for me :)

thanks!

Hi,

I have no experience with the set, but found another thread (http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=372929) that seems helpful.

It seems there's a set of 12, the going rate for the couple of sales and auctions I saw was around $50. I have no idea what a completed set would be worth.

Hopefully someone with some first-hand knowledge will be able to help you out.

Hi. I believe there were two sets made by J Wiss and Sons of new Jersey in 1976 and 1977. The first was released in 1976 to celebrate the American Bicentennial. There were twelve knives in a set. The tang stamps indicate the order of release starting with 1770. The bicentennial knife you have is the 12th of the first set. It should be stamped with the number 1781 and was released on the fourth of July 1976. I hope this helps a little.
