While anticipating my CT velvicut boy's axe to arrive I came about this great article. I am sure many here saw it but still for some it could be a nice read:

I do not own any CT axes and am very much looking forward to check my BABA in a few days.

Thank you! Good read and not a thoroughly opinionated and biased view such as many tool evaluations are. The fellow does a good job of calling a spade a spade. I have to admit to not having any sort of Hudson Bay design on my list of 'must haves' as users only because conventional 'boy's' or pulpwood/chainsaw (Canadian term for a 2 lb) axes have a 'less vulnerable to haft loosening' eye. Aside from that the Velvicut HB sure is pretty and they did make a concerted effort to improve the eye shortcoming.

That is a great review. I particularly liked the Sapwood v. Heartwood link, since it is a constant source of passionate discussion on various Forums. The Hudson Bay design has been around for a long time and there's a good reason for it. The HB performs a lot of general woodcraft tasks well.

i will read the blog article concerning the Council Tool Velvicut
i am glad a least there is a USA company making axes for sure.
hope you get your moneys worth from it.
i have a lot more to say about axes, not sure anybody really cares what i have to say.lol
i own a few, Snow & Neally, Collins, Tru Temper, Wetterlings, Norlund, Plumb , Zenith ,Blood, and many other brands.
almost all except the Wetterlings made in USA.
well, more later.
just bought a couple a House Handle Boys Axe handles from the local farm supply store for axe projects. i'd prefer to make my own handles but thought i would use these two handles to test a new handle treatment and process specifically a mixture of 1to1 Pine Tar and Boiled Linseed Oil .
by the way, i don't like using metal wedges. if you look closely at the eye of the axe in the blog you'll see the wood is split on either end of the metal wedge. my preference.
