Hi all, just had this piece back for a little clean up. The knife was commissioned by friend and engraver Marcello Pedini four or five years ago. In that time it has moved back and forth between us between various stages of engraving and actual build. This is the first time I have seen it with all the engraving completed. Blade is CPM154, bolsters 416SS, and scales are Ironwood.
As the title states this knife commemorates the Great Australian Cattle Drives of yesteryear, from Birdsville to Maree, just shy of 320 miles. Drovers (Cowboys) drove thousands of cattle down the "Birdsville Track" to Maree to be loaded and sent to market by rail. The last drive was in 1972.
Hope you like the knife and enjoy a little Australian history.
