It was a thrill to get to go.Many custom makers.All of the big people you hear about on the forums was there,more than a little nervous meeting them.The Para Military is going to be a real winner,could not take a pic.The ATR is much better in real life than in pics.Handled a very interesting magnisium handled military,really felt solid.Although I do not care for the dodo it fits the hand perfectly and I am sure it will be loved by many.The SS Cricket is much thinner than I thought,Santa Fe was in the next booth with some allready finished.Even after the work on the scales it was still not any thicker than an FRN Cricket.They also had a dino bone Kiwi,I got to get one of them.Spyderco was also giveing away hat pins and other little goodies.The only thing that was bad about today was I did not have enough cash.Next year I am going to go and stay over night so I can get a better look at it all.I bet I didn't see 75% of it today and I was there 9 hours.
If you ever get a chance to go then GO!!
 
hope you had fun, and the paramilitary is getting more and more interesting. what are the specs on it? What kind of steel plus handle/scale material. I heard it's coming out before christmas?

Any idea if this was a new or old/discontinued production piece? Prototype, one-off?
 
It is a prototype.I told Sal that it would be a great one to produce instead of the SS Military brought up in another post.It looks like steel but has the texture of G10 and the wieght is about the same.
 
The Para has the same scale shape as the ful size only a little smaller.The blade looks almost like a cross between a Delica and a Miliatary.The compression lock is refined more in this one,much easier to use than the earlier ones.I would think that the blade steel would be S30V.
 
Yea, the steel will be S30V, and the blade length is 3.25 inches. Is the blade still flat ground like on the Military though?

I loved the Feel of the Dodo it will be a great knife to some. The para-military realy felt stout in the hand. One knife I saw that i really want was a Police with rainbow anodized handles, it was just a test knife but I would love to see a limited run of them or something. Sal and his son were very nice to talk to in person and very happy to tell you about anything there at the show.

Also the Spyderco Bali is just cool, looks like nothing you have ever seen before I want one and soon!

The ATR surprised me in that it was bigger than I expected it to be but man it feels great in the hand and strong as a oxe, the blade shape realy seemed like it would be a great everyday use blade, and the cobra hood was just the right size to be usefull but not in the way. I think the ATR will be a big hit for Spyderco.

I liked the rainbow Police too.Joyce said it would not been put into production because Spydercos were not meant to be purty.I think the Police looks alot like a large Leek.IMO it would sell great.
