Well, after 19 years of marriage I finally gave up on my wife ever cooking, so I dove in. The first thing I realized was how bad our kitchen knives were (Oneida made in china walmart special). I went to a local town fair and there was a Cutco rep there and the blades looked pretty decent so I forked over $800 bucks for a set and the guy placed an order. As I drove home it dawned on me that I had gone through a period a few years ago of knife obsession and remembered bladeforums wonderful insight to all things knife. So I got home dusted off my account and searched for Cutco... Uh oh, basically very high priced mediocre steel! I cancelled the order and started reading!
I stumbled across Mark at Chefknivestogo, and ended up with a couple of Sharpton stones and two very reasonably priced awesome cutting blades!

Tojiro Shirogami ITK 150mm Petty for $40
and
Richmond Artifex 210mm Gyuto for $60

Wow! These guys make cooking alot more fun!

Of Course my knife lust got reignited and now I am talking to some of the great makers on here searching for a custom damascus chef knife!

For $800 you could get several very nice custom knives from makers on here. I'm very glad you didn't waste that kind of money on cutco.

Cngrats on your purchase. Those will serve you a lot better than the Cutco. Glad you got some stones too, sharpening can be almost as fun as cutting.

Yep, got the knife bug again! After seeing Randy's knife porn over here I had to place an order with him! I was a tad uncertain about actually using a $1000 knife instead of sitting it in a display case, but Randy assures me they hold up great and are a true pleasure to use.
