I just finished the best book I've ever come across about Nepal and the Gorkhas and wanted to pass the word. The book is "The Mountain Kingdom: Portraits of Nepal and the Gurkhas," by B. M. Niven. The book, which sells for $18.95 through Amazon.com, is about 100 pages long, and consists largely of slick, high-quality color photos. The book offers a good introduction to the country and people of Nepal; plus, it contains a section on the recruitment and training of Gorkha soldiers. For anyone wanting a good overview of Nepal and the Gorkhas, I highly recommend this book. And even if you feel that you already know all you care to know about the subject, I recommend the book just because of the quality photos. I have about a dozen books on Nepal/Gorkhas, and this book is my favorite. I can't recommend it highly enough.
