I am looking for a large , tough bowie. I am looking for a handsome Bowie that will still be practical for heavy duty field use.

Also heres a trivia type question to wich i have no answer. I have been trying to figure out what kind of knife the native American point man on the movie Preditor (with Arnold )was carrying. It was a big *** Bowie type knife. I was told that if it has an edge on it the folks on this site will have all the answers.
Theres a good shot of the knife toward the end of the movie when they are "getting to the choppa" and the Native american soldier who was the pointman stays behind on the fallen tree bridge. If anyone knows please let me know. Thanks for any help.
Jessanks for any help.

Check general discussion forum. The only thing that matches the blade's size is it's price tag - over $1500 I think...

Jess, it was a custom machete, made by Jack Crain. He made all the knives for that movie.
PS; welcome to BFC. :)

I too, loved the knives in Predator. Just a note; if you want something like that made by Crain, it's gonna cost you a few months car payments.

How big? How rugged?

Here is one of my heavy duty bowies from David Brodziak

David makes much larger bowies, just about any size you might want, but I find that anything with a blade over about 8" gets pretty unwieldy. The one I have is a 7 1/2" blade. Here is one of David's with an 11" blade.

Didnt another maker do a sort of reproduction of the Predator Machete?
I seem to recall a pic from Knives Annual '97... I think?

I like the second one but I' am lookin for a more of a field grade handle . I'd make that one look pretty rough. How much are they, what steel.. any handle options?
Thanks,
Jess

Take a look at the HKR form Newt Livesay and the various offerings from Mineral Mountain Hatchet Works.

Thanks a lott everyone. Now there are about 100 knifes I love. Thanks for all you advice,
Jess
