My wife and I are planning to do a walking tour in Great Britain this spring. Is carrying a SAK acceptable there (or do Brits use their teeth to cut cheese and pull corks?). Can you buy knives in the UK any more? If so, where?

Hi,

Hope you have a good time over here!

Generally, SAK are ok! The law is quite straightforward: basically you can carry a non locking knife under 3". Over 3" or if it locks you need to have a good reason; work, religious reason, but you could argue if you are hiking you need a locking knife, BUT the onus is then on you to justify the carry.

You can buy knives pretty easily over here; if you're touring regular hiking routes there should be no problem picking up a SAK on route in a regular camping store.

Hope that makes sense.

I edc Buck 301 or SAK all the time and not had any trouble.

*sigh* Great Britain makes me depressed.

I used to think that, but our own knife laws here can be just as depressing!

to OP, maybe you can use this as an excuse to pick up an UKPK. I have handled one and they are quite nice..

I'm from canada. Knife laws are alright. No switchblades or bali's. But there is no limits unless stated by a municipal law (fairly rare).

Spyderco has a whole line of slipits that are UK legal. I myself own a UKPK, Squeak, and a Stag Kiwi, and I had a Bob Terzuola until I traded it last week. I usually carry a Case Peanut and my UKPK when out and about, and at work I swap out the UKPK for a Benchmade (either my Mini-Presidio, or now my brand new 13960 Osborne).

This is what I did! I'm not sure when the new laws were enacted but last time I went home I'm pretty sure that I broke a bunch of knife laws.
