Seems like someone did ask about this before - and I think I printed it all out, put it on Chris' desk and it got eaten by the hole that lives in that desk!
Anyway, to answer the questions:
. yes, it is the same Chris Reeve
. the model is called the "Lock 45"
. the whole back handle of the knife acts as the lock and the "45" refers to the angle of the back section on either side of the pivot area. (A little hard to explain and the photo doesn't really show the detail.)
. there are no plans for a production run
. the hole is not a cigar capper but is there to reduce the tension on the spring
. it is good to be curious!
There are a couple of inaccuracies in the sales information that I'd like to clear up. This knife is not a prototype. When Chris made these, he was a fully custom maker, he made about 25 knives of this design and each knife was numbered. For those who have come to know our knives only recently, the information that Chris began as as a custom maker might be new. He is still a member of the Knifemakers Guild in his own right - the company, Chris Reeve Knives, is not a member. Because of time constraints, he has not exhibited at the Guild Show for a few years. This knife was made in our early years here, I don't remember exactly but it was around 1990/1. (BTW - it couldn't be 14 years old and made in the USA - we have only been here 13 and a half years!
It is a great concept - one of several that just sit on the very back burner until one day we can get back to them!
