I spent sometime today working on my fire making skills.
4 for 4 on starting sustainable fires. I am really getting the hang of the Misch Metal and LMF spark tools. I think I am starting to lean toward the GG Misch. Really only because their "badger" size fits better in my hand.
Man, you really have to SCRAPE them dont you. I put their little striker deep in the knuckle of my index finger and really scrap down. You guys were right. With a little practice you can start to "direct" the sparks. I think I still prefer the LMF, but I guess I will just have to keep both!
Also getting really good at finding fat pine. Today I harvested a whol crocery bag from a dead stump in the woods.
IAWoodsman's advice of "shaving" the wood has been fantastic. And if you shave that fat pine, watch out!
So today I collected some fat pine, harvested some dead wood limbs, came home and batoned them down (With a Mora... yep, Mora's can baton just fine). And worked up 4 separate fires. FUN FUN!
