Great deer season

Well Kansas rifle season has arrived. Thursday evening my nine year old and I sat in a ground blind and got busted by a 10 point buck. He winded us made a couple jumps into a creek bottom and I new where he was but no way to get a shot at him he then started slowly working himself away from us I was catching glimpses of him thru the hardwoods. He finally came to a area where I had a shooting lane cut threw the timber 100-130yds from our blind. I knew my nine year old couldn't make that shot so when he got to the opening I shot him. He made a few hops and died. Now for the interesting part I had my 13year old son field dress him with a Buck Ergohunter Pro it did a splendid job as did my son. We then switched to the Buck Open Season Pro Boning knife to skin, quarter and debone him. That knife is a pure pleasure to use for that task. Now Friday evening rolls around and I've got the nine year old and the five year old boys and moms not home yet so we all headed to the timber. Within just a few minutes of getting on stand two smallish bucks came into us. My nine year old made a beautiful shot on a four point at about 50yds that died after only a jump or two his first deer(proud daddy moment) On this deer I field dressed him with my nine year olds full sized Buck Alpha Hunter. I then switched to the same Open Season boning knife as the night before to skin, quarter and debone him. Never touched the edge on the boning knife have no doubt I could probably do a third deer before that knife would require sharpening very impressed with it and Buck's S30v.

Congratulations to you and your son's! Love to see some pictures, but glad to know Buck Knives are serving another generation of Kansas deer hunters. OH

Got one yesterday myself-hunters on the neighboring property shot at some does within 5 minutes of start of shooting time, they ran to me and I missed them. About 40 minutes later an 8 point buck came right to me. Shot him with a homemade bullet from my .45-70 and dressed him with the Buck 119 my wife gave me our second Christmas together.

You guys are killing me with these stories. I need to check into that Open Season filleting knife with s30v steel. I think it comes with a leather
sheath. Still offered at Cabela's. DM

Congrats on your 'proud daddy moment' and you and family's hunting success. Cherished memories, for sure. Preston

Got word that my wife's coworker's 12 year old son got his first deer yesterday. "only" 7 points, but based on the size of the antlers I think he's an old buck at the point that he's going downhill-lots of mass, and long, solid points. Doesn't get much better than a big one that's already passed his genes on for your first!

No idea on what he shot it with or their choice of knife though. He definitely looks happy in the photos they posted on facebook though!

Dave

I bought three of those Alaskan Guide Fellet knives for my kids they are very nice knives. They didn’t come terribly sharp however and I sharpened them all more to my liking. We have yet to use them however. I have the same problem as more than a few of you guys I’m sure in that I buy way more knives than we can actually use.
