Okay, I know that we have the top three, Great Eastern, Tidioute and Northfield UNXLD. We also have Beaver Tail. There was a dog related name that was of the same quality as Northfield, I believe. What other names have been used?

I dont mean to be mean but what exactly are you asking?

are you asking about a "dogleg" (trapper) for instance? it refers to the way the knife is shaped, kind of like a peanut, bulkier one end and thinner on the other with a gentle curve in the middle.
Perhaps a variety of "jacks.."

Well.....shrapnel is right the #48 pattern is called the Slim Dog Leg,otherwise there is French Kate, Whaler, Lumberjack, Roughneck, Ben Hogan, Geppetto, White Owl, Yellow Rose and of course the new Outlaw

I'm not an expert on GEC by any means, but didn't they make a couple things under the Bulldog name in the past? Perhaps that's what the OP is referring to. They also made some trapper pattern knives for Taylor Schrade. I have one of these and am seriously considering another.

Off the top of my head there is GEC, Tidioute, Northfield, The Schrade fire and ice, Bulldog knives, and I think they might have made some Tuna Valley knives also. I'm sure there are more that I am unaware of.

He's referring to divisions of Great Eastern and knives they made for other companies, I think. Not actual specific patterns.

I was referencing the brand names that Great Eastern has used. I know that they have made many knives for different companies lately, but my question was in reference to the in house brand names. I saw someone had a White Owl model, with a dog paw shield on it, for sale in the Exchange. I just bought a copy of the new Blade issue, and there was an ad for Plaza cutlery, with their dog paws etching on some Northfields, and a dog paw shield. The brand sold in the Exchange was something with Dog in the name. I am a dog person, I have three labradors crowded around me, trying to be the one to rest his head on my foot, as I type this, and was interested in getting some Great Easterns with the dog paw shield.

Then go to(non-BF dealer name deleted.) and buy one from then. The owner is Dan . He'll set you right up with a Dog Paw knife.

Great Eastern, Tidioute, and Northfield UNXLD are the only Brands GEC sells under their name. Yes, they make knives for other branded companies but those are the only three that wear the GEC Brand.

Trand? Mike? Helloooooooooo? :D One of those guys (along with a bunch of others) ought to be able to clear things up. I'm under the impression that there are the three main labels that you mentioned, GEC, Tidioute, and Northfield UNXLD. I always thought the Beavertail fell under the GEC label, in the same way that I thought the "dogpaw" knives were under either Northfield or Tidioute. Now that I'm typing this though for some reason I feel the "dogpaw" knives might have been under GEC as well. Certainly can get confusing :o Are you asking Dan to assist in your search for a knife or just general knowledge?

Nathan

GEC seems to have made quite a few SFO's for others, my personal favorite being my new Ole Jack from Krack-a-Jack knives. They've done knives for Schrade, Bulldog, Walden, Ulster, Tuna Valley, Plaza Cutlery, Bradford, Cripple Creek, Northwoods/Scagel, Good Ole Days, and more. I found a listing over on AAPK.

Love that Dog Paws Conductor, I found them after I had gotten my Northfield version.

Great Eastern Cutlery uses three BRAND NAMES for their knives. Great Eastern Cutlery,Northfield UN-X-LD,and Tidioute Cutlery. The other names, ie: French Kate,Ben Hogan,Outlaw,Roughneck,Lumberjack,ETC. ETC. are PATTERN Names within one or the other BRANDS. They also, like most knife manufaturers, make a number of knives,on contract, for a number of Knife Retailers.
