I have never really delved into traditionals. Somehow I stumbled upon this and it looks really nice. Thoughts?

Looks good to me. I just got the #71 Sodbuster. and for that price it`s a great knife. F&F is top notch and I already like the O1 steel better than Cases CV.

i'd like to pick one up but waiting a little while to see if they come out with a few more handle styles.

I picked up one in orange. It's a nice sturdy working knife that rides well in the back pocket. The color is washed out in this pics. The orange is very bright in person.

Thanks for the other pictures. Is it a really high hollow grind? Or Flat. And what are your thoughts on the O1?

Its a flat grind with an excellent drawn swedge. The O1 is great stuff, I like their 1095 just as much but thats not an option here. Get one and use the heck out of it. I can technically open mine one handed but dont recommend it, the blade has snap from the spring and it could bite you bad if your not careful. My co-worker wants to buy mine lol. I may give in and give the black one a try, who knows.

I dont have a #99 FarmerLock but I do have a #71 Bullnose .

First ,the reason for I do not buy the farmerlock is that I carry a modern knife , normally lockbacks . For me the advantage of modern knife is that they have clip and one hand open system ,so fast draw and safer .

And I carry the bullnose with the modern ,for I love it . http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1048981-A-folder-more-comfortable-than-a-Bullnose

Hardly can I find a reason for me to carry a traditional knife with lock . A lock does make it safer than other slippys , but also make it a little modern .

This is just my thought but if you are new to tradition knives you may try something "purely" traditional . I used to have a liner lock Queen Teardrop and the only thing made me unhappy after carrying it 2 months is it has a lock . And really cannot go wrong with a Bullnose .

After all its your choice and welcome to traditional :)

I just got an orange 99 a couple weeks ago and carried it every day since. It is one of the more inexpensive knives made by GEC yet the quality is there. Very sturdy, tough knife. It's in O1 steel which I think is new for them, most others are 1095 or 440c in some hunting knives. I like it so far.

I like the O-1 steel better than 1095. IMO, it has a smaller grain and takes finer, stronger edges very easily. It sharpens as easy, or easier than GEC 1095 on my equipment, but the Case CV is lower hardness and easier yet.

I have really been enjoying the O-1 blades since they were introduced and I hope they make many more. I carry the lockback more than the others as I feel it's safer but it cuts just as well with the thin blade.

The funny thing with knife collecting is you can find inexpensive knives that cut as well or better than more expensive folders, including some few hundred dollar folders from a custom maker.

This is one of those knives. I should get an extra. :)

Awesome! Thank you for the insight. I have to get one of these this weekend. Thanks everyone for the pics. All I keep seeing in my head is this blade a summer carrying companion.
