Hi all,

I feel kind of bad. In a few threads I stated that GEC 1095 is rated at 59-60 on the RC scale per manufacturer specs. For the life of me I can't find where I came up with this. I really believed it was straight from the Manufacturer. Either way, I was incorrect.

I am starting this thread for anyone that searches to find the RC rating of Great Eastern Cutlery knives. I called today and spoke to a representative at GEC and she stated that ALL GEC knives are heat treated to 57-59 on the RC Hardness Scale.

I hope this helps anyone looking for info.

Sorry again if I caused confusion in previous posts.

I don't recall ever seeing any GEC tested coming in at 57. All the ones I've seen tested have been either 58 or 59 HRc, whether carbon or stainless.

If you measure a sample on two different Rockwell machines which were not calibrated to the same standard, the closest you can say is your measurement ±1. The calibration standards are only guaranteed to be that.

So if they were to hit 58 on the nose each and every time, someone else with a different Rockwell machine might measure anything from a 57 to a 59.
