Can anyone tell me whether the GEC stockman or the small barlow have half stops? I have their full size trapper, which has very definite half stops and I know that the small trapper does also, but don’t know about these two. Thanks.

My GEC #25 Barlow Jack(endcaps instead of a long bolster) has half stops, so I assume the #25 barlow has them.

Bottom knife.

Nice photo up above - I edc that same Case peanut at work, and it's good to see it side-by-side with the GEC Barlow I crave.

From what I've read, with those bear trap GEC springs, you NEED half-stops if you want to stay out of the ER.

I find the half stop a real pain with those springs.... when it clears the square tang corner, it jerks the blade away from my fingers, it can be rather painful the blade suddenly smacking my fingertips, or trying to remove a fingernail if I have a nail in the pull.

OTOH, I can't imagine closing the thing without the halfstop... but easier opening would be worth the risk IMO. Then again, with out the square corner on the tang, there would be less spring tension as it goes by, and far less snap..

Those GEC's # 25 SLB's are manly knives alright. The half stops and grown up springs are right down my alley for a knife...

i just purchased one in the small bullet pattern after hearing all the comments on the forum. i dont know if they are all like mine, for the money they are the best slipjoint made. very strong springs which you may like or dislike. what i noticed was the good craftmanship. sure you can find problems with any knife but for the money and the product you receive its the best bargin out there

I have a scout on the way, mine is a dual blade in stag. It is coming from KSF. I am looking forward to putting it through it's paces over the holidays.

JT, With my rule the blade on the # 25 measures from tip to bolster 2 1/8 " . They are nice little knives very handy for the size and traditional materials and looks all the way...
