This just arrived in the mail today. This thing is stout, and I really like the brown Micarta. This will be my pocketknife for the woods, plus some edc carry.

Ooooh, I like that one. And I always shyed away from micarta scaled slippy's. But, I must say she looks very sweet dressed in those particular scales.

Please tell what size closed, what steel and what model number / name is that one designated??. Inquiring minds want to know?.:)

Model #73, 3 3/4" closed, and 1095 steel. It's the Scout model. So far I like it a lot, feels great in hand and rides great in pocket.

GEC is the best factory produced slippie on the market right now in my opinion. Here are some of mine along with a case classic #23 which is a dead ringer of the GEC #23

Looks awesome and thanks for the pics. I really like the patterns Great Eastern is now producing. Can you tell us about the action? Is it a nailbreaker, or reasonably easy to open?

Thanks.

It does lean toward nail breaker. With a little practice I can get it open enough to grab with my fingers though, so it's not bad. I'm happy the action is tight though, and has a serious half stop too.

Very nice piece of gear in micarta.

Do they do any single blades in that?

My real complaint about GE is not the finish or look (very good) or the springs, a bit tough, but they are a big heavy knife. If they start smaller models then I'll be much poorer....

Yep...My #73 has some serious spring action. Better watch those fingers when closing. They do loosen up over time though which I consider a good thing as they are a little too tight right out of the box.

I am looking to pick one up from your website okbohn the GEC. The #73 scout in charcoal. How is the walk and talk on these? Any play?

There’s been a lot of praise heaped on Great Eastern Cutlery. I appreciate the company and what they’re trying to do. However, I had to send both of my #73s, a Northfield Scout and a Tidioute Beaver Tail, back to the factory for back spring and fit and finish adjustments. Buying a folder, sight unseen, is always a crapshoot and I guess I’ve been unlucky. GEC has been great to deal with on the phone but no word on how long this will take. I've only done this kind of thing once before and it was with a case product. That's been a while back but I seem to remember that it took "months".

Mike

Man, you guys are killing me. I really want the #73 with ebony scales, but my budget right now makes that questionable. I'm afraid that by the time I can feel comfortable getting one, there won't be any left.
