As it seems the search function is broke most of the time, what do you pocket knife afficianados think of the GEC stuff?

Real good knives.

Great Eastern Cutlery also produces the Tidioute and Northfield brands; the 3 brands are nearly interchangeable.

(They had a little bit of a rough beginning from what I've heard, but they've worked out all the kinks.)

The knives are beautifully made with very strong backsprings and solid half stops.
Only thing I'd say, now that I own 5 of them, is that they are not very sharp out of the box. Sharp enough, though.

I can certainly see myself buying more of them as they issue more patterns and styles.

They have let my "Smack-T Kewls" :D get a long needed break! I love these knives, I have had a green Scout in my pocket all weekend.

Nice strong spring, these things will not close on you. Well that's if your using it to cut with. The carbon steel will get very sharp, but you will have to make it that way. Mine have shipped dull. The Sheep's Foot would scrap hair off, but not pop it.

It will take polished edge, and hold it for a while. The more I use them the more I like them! Something just feels right about them, its pretty cool when my boy's want an apple and daddy gets to pull a well made slippie out. Peel and slice it, and watch them enjoy it.

Call it "folksy" if you will. Or call it "old s'kool" if our grand dads a carried slippies they are good enough for me. ;)

And, them thin full flat blades cut like a light sabers. Over all, I would say my GECs feel like you went back in a time machine and bought a knife. They have that old style feel to them. You know, like when they made stuff to last.

I can see them out lasting me, and going on to serve my kids very well. Maybe on a second thought.... You should stay very far away!

Because it only takes one to get "hooked!" :D

Very good quality with authentic old school look.

I really like my No.73 single blade liner lock in burnt stag.Carbon soon gets a colour on it and keeps a keen edge too. Get some today!

GEC products are terrible and obsolete. You should imeediately dispose of any that you have by sending them to me . . . ;)

mine are really good- but i'd second the fact that they come blunt/ Mine appears to have a convex secondary bevel, i'm undecided as to how to sharpen it or whthere to reprofile the edge

Very nice knives with a great retro look. As said above - be ready to sharpen the knife because it will be dull out of the box.

BTW, What is it with slipjoint knife companies and dull knives? In the last 35 years I don't ever recall seeing a Case, Queen, or Schrade knife come out of the box even reasonably sharp.

Huh, my Scout seemed pretty dull when I got it, but just stropping it on the leg of my jeans while watching TV for a while, made it nice and sharp (this one has 440C blades). BTW - their stuff is near-custom quality for not custom quality prices.

Dave start out with a two blade Scout in carbon steel. I have a Green river bone and LOVE it! Its starting to get its own look going, just can't say enough good stuff about these knives. :D

I was looking a the Scout. I think I will give one a try. Now for the handle choice. I would like jigged bone. Im not a big cellulose fan but I know it a classic handle material.
