A lot of people have varying attitudes to Great Eastern Cutlery, and I don't want to gainsay other's experience.

Here's my view on one of their latest offerings, this time a sheath-knife/fixed-blade/non-folding:D The knife is in the traditional Outer pattern and comes in 3 finishes, 2 in carbon, a diamond cut Bone and a sort of yellow handle for the Tidioute. The other-which I have-is the stainless version which comes in Horse Cut Walnut Bone (why Horse Cut???) with the squirrels etched on the blade. This is a small knife, about 7"/19cms with a slim handle that may appeal to slip-joint fans. It is NOT a knife for somebody with a Yeti paw yearning to baton wood or large scale survivalist tasks. However, it suits my hand and is a deft user. The scales offer good grip and the crossguard is welcome too, comes ultra sharp so watch it! Yesterday I tried it on some food tasks including slicing a thick steak, couple of sacks and sharpening wood staves. Its small size makes it a credible carry in the inside pocket or on the belt you barely notice it. Very handy as I like a small sheath-knife.

Fit&finish is very good. No rough edges on the tang (unlike my Canal St drop point hunter that cost more)rivets and shield are smooth/flush not rough to the touch. Sheath is generally good, practical and sturdy but I don't care for natural leather colour (black or chocolate brown would be nicer in my view)and it's a bit roughly finished but durable. Hangs well and is secure with a button stud. Irritated by glue or other gunk marks that smear the blade though but that will wear off no doubt.

All in all, a welcome addition and the start of more sheath knives from Great Eastern in the future I hope. No pix as I'm wary of my digi-camera (lost the charger anyway:eek:) But you can find very good pix of them on e-bay. The yellow handled carbon Tidioute is a looker:thumbup:

Anybody else have one or want one? Very Traditional:D

Thanks for the review! I hadn't heard of those before. Looking at some pics on eBay, it seems like the No. 10 would make a good EDC for those who prefer smaller fixed blades. They're pretty inexpensive, too.

Thanks!
I'm pleased with it as I like to have a small sheath knife 'in reserve' as it were.
Very pleased with their slip-joints I have, although I realize that other forum members have been annoyed with early models.
