Great Eastern?????

I did a search, and found the threads regarding the F&F issues. I didn't see and follow up (or didn't look hard enough) on knives received lately. I'm looking at this knife:

sooooo, whats the consensus. Are they worth the risk? I love this pattern, and 1095 is my favorite steel.

Of course I feel safe with Bob at CKW, but just wanted your thoughts.

From my experience with Queen and S&M the F&F are so close
to be good but yet so far. I have 2 queens and 1 S&M and
all have had at least 1 issue. S&M has really weak springs.
The queens all had blade wobble problems. Doesn't make them
unusable but it's still annoying.

If Great Eastern's F&F turns out to be better then I'll be buying from them.
I like slippies but it's hard to find consistent quality with any
single brand (that I've tried, and barring Victorinox).

My only G.E. is currently at the factory for repair or replacement, was pretty sad, scratches and dull as dirt.

Hoping I get back one that's better????

I saw your thread TLC. That was the big reason I asked in the first place. Not sure yet. A new slippie is needed for my Fathers day present, but I'll look around and make up my mind sooner or latter.

Thanks for the info:thumbup:

my great eastern is in for repair / replacement also- pretty sad is a good description, mine even had a bent blade-

This sucks, I just ordered two of them. :(

I heard good things from a couple of folks over at KF and I got them from people I trust (Dan from JRE) so I hope they are OK. Sending knives for repair all the way from Argentina would suck, it would take forever (if by some miracle they aren't stolen by a postal worker).

Just got the last two to complete the set(Sheffield Tobacco and Rodgers Green Tea) and have to admit that out of all of them the only problem I've had is that someone was slightly over-zelous with the pin spinner on the GEC Diamond Cut . If I really want to get picky I could say that two of the shields, out of fourteen knives, were just a bit proud, but not to the extent that I would be put off by it. All in all I'm very impressed with what I've gotten.

I've got four models, and happy with all of them, Only one slight problem on the 23 model Diamond cut knife, a very very slight gap in between scale and bolster. that's about all.

I appreciate everyones input. I ended up going in a complete different direction. Purchased a HI Khukiri WWII. :o My last purchase was a Case Sodbuster and I have never owned a Kuhk.

Thanks again:thumbup:

As Cumberland Knife was mentioned, I noticed an unusual pattern from Queen:The Tear drop Liner lock in Burl Maple, like the look of this & never had one. Does anybody out there have first hand exp of this knife or similar? Thanks.

How come they don't get stolen by a postal-worker BEFORE you take delivery then:D

I"ve got one in amber carved stag bone. It's a beautiful knife and I really like the one I got a lot. It's a great size for carry, the backspring is quite strong all by itself, the liner lock is just extra security (and probably unnecessary).
The spear point blade came with a good edge on it.

Thanks Blues, this is on my shopping list for sure. There is a version in Bird's eye Maple and a lighter Bonestag too. Which to choose aarghh! (as soon as Cumberland knife replies to my shipping charges e-mail) Good to know it's a useful EDC size as I always prefer single blade knives.

It's 3.75" closed and carries well.

Hopefully he can arrange to ship it for you overseas. If not, get a hold of me or Gus and we'll try to do what we can. I think the last small package I sent (Netherlands) was only about $5 or $6 via Global Priority but the rates here went up this week and I don't know if it effected those packages or not.

Wow! Yes the RATES have taken a huge leap this week! Anybody else notice this too? This could have a bad effect on international mail order business. Merits a thread of its own really.

Looking forward to that Queen teardrop but the postage rates are looking very expensive:eek:

What are the new prices on the Global Priority Mail Envelopes, do you happen to know? (There's a large and a small.)

I know a friend is going to want me to ship him another knife to the Netherlands he purchased stateside but if it's ridiculous I may have to ask him to pay this time around.

You got that right, I mailed off a next day air envelope and a priority mail package on Tuesday and almost had a cardiac. Each one went up around 2 bucks each...It's amazing that these shipping rate increases got not media coverage compared to the first class stamp..?

According to Bill Horn, I will now need to pay 24.50 for 3 pocket knives(under 2 lbs/1kg approx) to the EU with tracking. This seems like a major increase, got to get them though:D
