I posted several days ago that I took the plunge and ordered my first GEC, this is without a doubt the best slip joint knife I've owned. Now I "thought" I knew what a strong spring was, but I was wrong. I seriously dislike knives with weak springs, but this guy is tearing up fingernails opening it. Looking at GEC's line I had seen the EZ Open while also having the realization I open my sodbuster jr pinching the blade, not using the nail nick. So with much anticipation that I was going to mess this up I went ahead and modified the #73 using a couple files, sandpaper and a dremel with mini cotton wheel/green polishing compound. I can now pinch the knife open and save the fingernails. Here it is sitting on one of my strops. Let me know what you guys think.

Looks like you did a great job. Well done!

Wow, I thought it was factory done at first. Nice job there! I have a couple of GEC's like that, a Big Jack and a couple of Scouts. Hard to open that is.

Looks like you did a great job. How does it feel in hand now after the mod?

Thank you all for your compliments, they mean a lot. I definitely agree this should be a factory option on this model. As to how it feels in the hand, it doesn't feel much different with a 4 finger grip, however 3 finger grip feels more secure as 3rd finger rides in the cutout. I'm hoping as I break this knife in the action will loosen up a bit, trying to pinch open the blade if there is any oil on it is darn near impossible.
