Recently read an article about Great Eastern Cutlery. They look like some very nice knives. They look to be well made and have great attention to detail. I like that they are made here in the United States of America and that they are some what limited in their production numbers. I've got a tidioute #23 burnt grizzly cut single blade on the way to take a look at. Because they are limited to about 50-250 knives per a particular style do they really have collector value?

From what I read the Tidioute is their common with the Un-X-Ld being their top of the line.

Is there a Great Eastern area in this forum or somewhere else on the web, so that I can learn a bit more?

Thanks,

You have access to search. There are many, many threads in this forum.

The GEC 25's are limited to 50 pcs a style. I would assume you could have a nice sized collection working on gathering all the different ones...

Most current models are limited to 50 Serialized and ?? Non-Serialized production runs. They more demand they get, the larger the runs will be I expect.

Great products; as mentioned, search this forum specifically.

they are poised to deliver on the info and pics that increasingly are being called for.
GEC is exciting because they are somewhat mysterious but worth the exploration.
I have heard that their 2006 run is worth 3x as collectibles, but I don't know if that is really true.

I woke up today and my knife has arrived. I like the tube packing. My woman asked me if it was a salt shaker.....uh...yea, It's a salt shaker...maybe we can try it in the future! The #23 is a big one. The burnt grizzly cut really does remind me of the fur and claws of a grizzy. The lock up is tight and it also has a linner lock. I'm pretty impressed. I think I'll start looking for another.

I'll also try a search for more info. Thanks!

Try one of their No.73 Liner locks, they are a good bit smaller and lighter,3.75"

Really fine Traditional this:thumbup:

I'm trying to get a #73 scout trapper now but I'm not sure if it has a liner lock. It has two blades. Do all of the 73s have liner locks? Do they make 73s with a single blade?

Not all of the #73s have liner locks. My #73 is a 2-blade non locking slipjoint.

GEC has produced #73s as a single non locking slipjoint, a single liner lock and a 2-blade slipjoint. I believe all the 2-blade models were non locking.

Man that Grizzly looks great. Here are some pics of my #23 in the grizzly. I'm very proud of it.

Sweet knife!

I'm getting interested in them myself.

Trying to figure out the naming convention and if they are making things under different names. I need to do some more research and see if I can handle a few when I'm home.

Fairly simple general branding.

Tidioute and Northfield brands are 1095, with the Northfield generally being a little nicer finish (swedges, sig bolster, polished blades, etc).

Great Eastern brand is the stainless, but seldom produced, models.
