Yeah, of course I'm kidding.....I got it in a trade....but still a GREAT score for me!!
What can you tell me about it Andy?

Thats a Lacewood handled Large Nessmuk. One of the only ones I ever did with that handle swell in the middle. 1/8" thick 1095 steel. Looks brand new. Whoa.

Send it in if you want it marked.

I may do that Andy.....but first we need to spend some bonding time together....
I'm calling it " A whole lota Rosie"

It sure doesn't look like it was ever used nor carried. And it is sure SHARP!!
The sheath is a real beauty too and also in mint shape.....who's mark is a little foot print in back??

looks like an Ilbruche sheath.....

Goregeous blade. Lacewood looks really nice on a nessie...

Andy, the wife axed me what " that black flaky looking stuff" does to food.
I told her I would get with the maker himself on it.....

WTF $5!! Stuff like that doesnt happen that often! Good find.

Man, I can't believe someone would be willing to give one away for $5. I'll give you $10 so you can double yer money.

$5 garage sale find sounds better though.

Now we want to know what you traded for it?

I think someone once said that you could use a scotchbrite pad to remove the "black stuff". I don't see how it would hurt your food unless it flaked off in it. Would have to do a good job washing it though. (and drying, possibly wiping with a little oil...)

TAL.....no, I can't claim the sheath, it's made by Desertailoff (SP?), he uses a bare footprint as his mark. It is very nice....although, as cool as the lacing looks, I don't know how it's gonna work out with this knife as a user.
It doesn't appear that this knife was used or even carried. In the short time I've had it to play with, I've nicked up the lacing inserting and extracting the blade. In time it will be shredded. The blade is scary sharp, and to just touch the lacing with it is leaving nicks.......

WA....that was my concern, finding black, hard corn flakes in my steak......think it will grind off well since it's been HT??
I would hate to experiment on this fine blade, trying to do something I know nothing about, and messing it up.
I traded two Case Sway Back slippies. I know I made out on this one...but he really needed the slippies, and I really WANTED this one.

The black stuff is decarb. Which means its carbon which has come out of solution while the knife was hot. I recommend that you wash it gently with dishsoap, and leave it on the knife. It is non toxic, and actually antibiotic, and also prevents rust.

I was wondering if those laces on the sheath would be problematic. Shame to lose it because of that - anyway to "guard" the laces. Or is the fit too snug?

I have a feeling Mr. Rayban can fix the leather, either that, or its not salvagable.

Knowing me, I'll just leave the lacing alone and see what happens to it....then when I can't stand to look at it anymore, I'll just make some new pants for the blade.
