I've been enjoying discussing brewing, whittling, and other shared interests with StoneBeard and was thrilled when he kindly offered to give me a bottle of the beers he brewed on his big pumpkin brew day. His generosity didn't stop there, though, and he completely surprised me with some additional goodies.

First was a rooted cutting from his dragon fruit plant. I'd asked him about dragon fruit in the past and he very thoughtfully gave me the cutting so that I could grow my own. How cool! Here it is getting to know its new home:

But that wasn't all. I was astonished that he also gave me a #14 TC Barlow in yellow heart wood. It's a fabulous knife and my first TC Barlow. That I received it from him makes it all the more special. I wanted to be sure to share how I got it since it will be seeing a lot of pocket time and will no doubt be featured in many future photos.

The beer was delicious, by the way. That part wasn't a surprise. ;)

Man what a good guy. This is the season for giving. A real life santa :-). In all seriousness he sounds like a awesome guy and a class act. They Dont make friends like that anymore.

Really nice, and I'm just loving the yellowheart. It just pops. I use it on bowls at times, tho' I haven't turned in a while.

You are very welcome, Greg. I am really happy that you enjoyed the package. You are a good friend and prime example of what makes the porch far more then a forum. Thank you all for the very kind words. It means a great deal to me to be part of a community with so many outstanding people.

Could you explain to somebody from the Arctic what a Dragon Fruit is? You have a nice looking espalier fruit tree coming along there.

Very decent small Barlow too, companionship and friendship is what it's about.:thumbup:

It's a cactus that grows a very cool-looking fruit. StoneBeard gave a nice description of it in this post in the Totin' Today thread.

Thanks for noticing the apple tree. It was just planted this summer and I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out. :)
 
I love good stories. Another perfect example of the generosity here on the porch.
 
The generosity here never ceases to amaze me. What an excellent display of friendship and selflessness.
