I have been carrying my black pioneer the last couple of days and i noticed something.
IT HAS BLADE PLAY!!

:eek::(:eek:

i have never had a sak with blade play before. My wenger still is solid as it was the day i bought it. No play
but the pioneer which hasnt had a fraction of a fraction of the use and carry of the SI has blade play

i am absolutely shocked,
granted its not much, in fact in almost any other traditional i would not have thought twice its so minor. But its just so out of realm of my experience it just shocked me.

Does anyone else's victorinox's have any blade play? Or is this just one of those "one in a million" saks?

which direction? Vics by design are very good as far as play, the layout tends to make up for tiny differences, Plus they are made to a very high tolerance anyway. But that being said, a little play is going to be found with any moving part.

One in a million.... :D My 25-30 year old, well worn Pioneers/Farmers are still tight!

I personally have never seen it or even heard about it esp on an ALOX....send it to Vic and they will remedy that anomaly!

A one in a 99.9 quadrillion event...highly collectable because it's one in 99.9...you get the drill.

side to side blade play
and it IS very slight

its just all my other alox's are rock tight
this is just WEIRD

Limited SAK experience here - I've had about 6-8 of them in my life - but recall none of them having any play. SAK quality is typically in the stratosphere in my experience and from all I have known.

EXACTLY!!

hence the great googly moogly

Send it in and they'll make it right. A couple weeks in transit won't be missed compared to the irritation it seems to be bringing you. I know it would bother me - I'm OCD about certain things and that would be one of them. That SI is an ideal EDC, but if it bothers you it will end up being left in the drawer too often. It deserves to be carried and used often!

I have a lot of SAKs. I have bought several (well) used SAKs in the past. But I´ve never had any problem with blade play on them. On many other manufacturer´s it´s common, unfortunatelly.

I think it´s like SAK guy had mentioned - one in a million. But it´s a pitty that you got that one, Ryan (and even realised it). :p

Ah ok, well it's still gotta be right though. Are you starting to click more with that SI now?

Think you are misreading the situation. My SI is my knife. My go to, my old reliable.
I got the pioneer because the SI is now discontinued. I doubt I CAN click with it any more than I already do lol.

Ah ok, I thought I recall another thread where you'd been carrying it a few days (the SI) and were still not sure if you were clicking with it - different thread I saw a week or two ago. Sorry for the confusion. The black Pioneer? Send it in to get it tightened up is what I'd do. :)

while i DID post a thread like that, that was in reference to my GEC White Owl

as for my SI, i also recently posted this:

wow, finally hunted down the victorinox warranty service. They have gone up (its $10 now, with possibility of more depending on services needed) and they dont make it easy. They are asking for proof of purchase, which i suppose i can hunt down since i bought it online.

i do NOT like this online website deal, so i am going to try and call them on monday and see what they say...

Isn't that the Pioneer that you had to wait a really long time for it to ship?

I think its strange how if someone on here posts about being unhappy with play in a $70-$120 gec everyone's like "its meant to be used... you're being silly/too picky... you can't expect perfection from a production knife", then when someone says they have a ~$30 sak with very slight play people say "it shouldn't be like that.... send it back... they'll fix it"

I know saks are famous for their high tolerances, but its still a bit.... idk, strange.
