This is my first time posting in this area of the forums.

My grandmother passed away in June and in going through her things, my mother found these two razors and gave them to me when I went to visit for Thanksgiving.

The razors belonged to my grandmother's father who died in 1958 (at 77 years old). Both blades are still extremely sharp as the smooth patch on my arm will attest.

My photography skills are lacking, so these pictures aren't the best.. but does any one have an idea of age? I'm tempted to clean up the yellow one and try it out.

Thanks for looking.

the shumate in celluloid was a common inexpensive brand. i believe they were imported from germany. if you check the other side it will give orgain of country. the english razor is much older before 1892 & is handled in horn.the shummate was probably 1910 to 1930.

Thanks for the info Dennis. I guess I should keep the celluloid out in the open air, or at least away from other knives.

Thanks again.

psycho that old celluloid is usually stable. the only stuff i've seen go to hell was 1980s bull brand & eye [schliper]. however it's better to err on caution.

These are great, thanks for posting and the pictures! Use them and treasure the memories. If they could only talk, the stories they would tell.....
