I just bought a roll of 3M rubber mastic tape #2228 at Home Depot in the elecyrical section. I heard about it here. Someone used it to wrap the handle of their CS Bushman. So I thought I would try it on mine.

THIS STUFF IS AWESOME!!!!

It is very sticky and cushy. Wraps really easy and is workable. It is the perfect answer for the bushman handle. It even has a bit of tackiness once it is applied.

I am dreaming up all kinds of stuff to wrap with it now.

Not cheap. About 8 bucks for a 10 foot roll.

I tell you this if we had this stuff when I was a kid every baseball bact in the neighborhood would have been wrapped in this stuff,

Try it. I think you will love it.

Could you get a pic up of it? Currently, I have my bushman wrapped in Paracord and its just not cutting it for me.

People have found that softball bat grip tape, tennis racquet handle wrap, and the like were pretty good for the Bushman. There was just a post over in "wilderness and survival" about someone who found something to use along those lines. -Matt-

I'm sorry, but I gotta go against the grain, here. If the bushman grip is so crappy :barf: , (1)why get the thing in the first place :jerkit: , and (2) if you had to have one, why not get rid of the bad grip and replace it with one that rocks  out of exotics (wood, custom micarta/g-10, etc.) then post for us to see :D :D :D :D .

The whole "wrapped in electical tape" thing comes to mind :thumbdn:

not being nasty/sarcastic; just confused.

Um ... you've never seen a Bushman, have you.

The handle is bent around like a shovel -- there's a butted seam on the other side. Just butted, no weld.

That sounds great, I have been looking for such a product. My freind made the mistake of getting a minni bushman awhile back. Talk about a crappy grip, you'll think the regular bushman is luxuriant!

Um,..... I'd like to retract my previous statements on the Bushman's grip quality and rethink it to how much do they cost, and why spend that much on that knife?

They cost about $20, and they are tough as nails.

Literally its probally the best BANG for the buck. If you check out the video test on them, they tend to outlast many knives that cost 10X more than it does. I got mine for $15.99 can't really argue with that price.

Check out the "Wilderness and Survival Skills" sub-forum for many tips on the Bushman. Mine has a grip-wrap in the Ranger Rick style with black paracord, and a handle capped by a black crutch tip. Inside the handle, one can stash many cool things, like a pair of eye hooks. The eye hooks can be used to attach the Bushman to the tapered end of a walking stick to make a very serviceable spear. Also good for trimming foliage that's otherwise out of reach. The spear configuration provides comfort when camping solo in places where firearms are verboten. Great in the unlikely event of encountering cougar, or bear. Or the more likely event of encountering feral dogs and two-legged varmints.

It will not replace a nicely ground S30V fixed blade or multi-tool in the hiker's toolbox, but it's tough and takes a good enough edge for coarse work. I wouldn't hit the woods without mine.
