I just got back from Africa yesterday and I picked up the new Dodo and ATR from my local dealer, Grand Prairie Knives. They had been kind enough to hold them for me while I was overseas. The Dodo and ATR are great examples of why Spyderco is such a great production outfit. The ATR is a wonderful larger knife. I was really impressed with the integral compression lock. The Ti Salsa was great, but the ATR is even better. I hope that Spyderco comes out with the integral compression locks on some other larger knives. A knife with a large flatground blade would be great. That Dodo is an incredibly practical knife once one actually holds it. I know that the short blade and longer handle is not the look most are used to, but it is very practical. It is no accident that box cutters are made that way. Spyderco really did a great job. Eric and Sal Glesser are two first class knife designers!

I agree with what you say about the ATR. Each day (and I just got it two days ago) that passes by, I am more and more intrigued by this knife. This knife grows on you. It is a hell of a lot of knife for the money.

Here, here! But with a medium blade...Although the Li'l Temperance and upcoming Yojimbo should fit the bill (albeit not framelock)

Further observations:

The Dodo is most easily closed if one has good fingernails. I grab the ball with my thumb nail and middle finger nail and it is almost as smooth as an axis lock.

That ATR is just great. It is the most pure built tactical that Spyderco has ever made. I am falling in love with the blade shape and the large handle really allows for a secure grip. once again, these are great knives!:D

I have been carrying the dodo now for a couple weeks, I agree with your fingernail observation. Mine closes easily upon catching it with my nail. I can usually do it with my pointer nail on one finger like so...
