So I live in Belgium and unfortunately it is almost never good to buy a knife in a store because the prices are really kinda ridiculous, small sebenza's sell for 500euros (wich is approx 600usd), so I order most of my knives from the US, wich is still a whole lot cheaper including shipping costs than buying here in Belgium(French dealers are reasonable tough). So I was browsing the website from a Belgian store to check prices for tents since I have a camping trip coming up. I couldnt help myself but to check their knives out, I ended up having a real good laugh! Here's the link

I feel ya' bro:)
Knife prices(American knives mostly) here in Germany are ridiculous at times as well. But the advantage is that we get the awesome German-made Bökers(amongst others) for a pretty good price.
That price for a Gerber like that is totally outlandish though:D

myeah, what makes it worse is that in a thread that ran a couple of days ago "the worst knife you ever had" 90% of posts were ranting about gerber being comparable to made in china knives. You should totally check out the gerber site and read the comment section under their knives. Idk what that is, but people are having orgasms on how great the gerbers are when it's probably the worst brand out there.
Used my cousins gerber in the woods a while back, it broke after mild battoning trough a 3" piece of wood.

Gerber are a disgrace! I guess they were once respectable brand, but they have degenerated into making trash that isn't worth the materials it is made from and selling it to clueless people with clever marketing. This approach to business is a cancer in industrial society. It simply makes for more landfill and a drain on resources.

Sad to hear that Gerber has gone downhill that much. When I was a kid, they were a decent brand. My first really nice knife was one of their Blackie Collins designs. I have seen those BG pieces of garbage in Walmarts for $30.

I bought the last good Gerber, the LMF II (original version). When I bought it it had sanvik 12c27 steel, great sheath, great fit and finish, but all that has changed. The handle got a bit wonky on my so I sent it in for a replacement and what I got back was miles from what I sent in. The grind was terrible, the edge was dull, it was 420 hc, the sheath was a joke, I was so appalled that I sold it right away. Never again Gerber.

I got sent a Gerber Patriot for review around 1991. Another writer for the same magazine was already doing a write-up, so I stuck it in the cupboard. Never really liked the knife and have never used it, though it's currently next to my bed. Be interested to know what the steel is if anyone knows. Time was Gerber had a great reputation, such a shame to see what's happened to them.
