I've been talking with John over the past couple months about making me a knife and finally narrowed it down to the lobo. Right before John started working on it I emailed him a concept sketch of some changes to it that id like made and with no hesitation he said no problem. He said do a final draft and send me a cardboard cut out and we can make something happen. In the end I took the original lobo as the foundation, extended the blade by a 1/4 inch, added a slight re curve, and an extended tang. I received the knife last Friday right before my two night camping trip. When I took it out of the box it looked like he had taken it right from my sketch and man was it sharp. The knife feels great in my hand and i couldn't ask for anything more out of it. That night and the next i put it up against my chopweiler to see how it held up against some tasks that i wouldn't feel comfortable using some other knives for. The 3/16th 01 steel did great while chopping, batoning, and some carving and whittling. The knife has to be one of the most comfortable I have had in a long time. I love my bussekins, but it is really nice to know that there are knife makers like John that are a pleasure to deal with and make a fine quality knife without an arm and a leg price tag to go with it.

Thanks John, and i look forward to my next knife from you.

Thanks for the kind words, I try my best to please the customer. Here is the knife that we are talking about.

You won't find a better guy to deal with than John.

John is one of the best around a true BF standout . He makes some of the best custom feild knives out there, he a good guy to work with and that is why he has such a loyal following . You did great .

Hi Thor1986 -

Nice looking modified Lobo there!

Interesting that you compare it to a Chopweiler.

That Lobo looks like a nice handful of 01.

Yeah, the chopweiler was my number one go to knife that i had. Not to big, but almost just right and tough as all get out. Plus it was already packed up ready to go camping when i got home. So it was the natural choice to put my new lobo up against while i was out in the woods. I love the chopweiler still, but ounce for ounce the lobo is right there with it and way more comfortable.

Hi Thor1986 -

That is good to hear, because the Chopweiler is a tough act to follow, so it is nice to hear that the JK Lobo can hang with one!

Thanks for posting your thoughts.

Good to hear that you are pleased with your JK. John never ceases to impress me with not only his work but also what a pleasure it is to deal with him. I personally am not a big fan of recurves but I actually like that one. It speaks to his skills in bringing our own little personal knife thoughts to life!
