Hi all,

I just recently found this forum and I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying it. I've found it to be a very informative and pleasant place to spend some time. It's very refreshing to see the owner of a company interacting with his customers. We need more business leaders like this. Hats off to you and your company Mr. Glesser, keep up the great work.

I ran across the forum by accident while doing a little research. I'm looking for a new daily carry/duty knife and was surfing to see what was available. I've narrowed my choice down to a Military, CF Police, or an Endura. I just can't seem to make up my mind. Incidentally I've carried the same Endura for the last 12 years as my daily duty knife. As a police officer I've used it daily for everything from opening the mail to cutting people out of locked safety belts. I even used it once to cut a small tree branch down in length that a lady had managed to impale her thigh with. When I started in Police work I was given a Delica by a friend and purchased the Endura at the same time. I used the Delica as a back-up to the Endura. Both were 50/50 edge knives and cut great. One day at the range I managed to lose the Delica. I was pretty mad at myself for losing it. About two months later another officer found it in the tall grass and gave it back to me. I was very happy to have it back and amazingly enough in great condition. It had been sitting out in the field all that time and there wasn't a speck of rust on it! I wiped it down and cleaned up the edge and put it back in my duty bag. About a year later I loaned it to an officer that I was training who didn't have a duty knife. Yep, you guessed it he lost it. Unfortunately this time it was gone for good.

A few years ago I made the mistake of replacing my Endura with a CRKT M-16. The M-16 was a decent knife but just wouldn't hold an edge like my Endura does. I finally got fed up with the M-16 and threw it in my range bag. It didn't get the job done like my trusty old Endura. Unfortunately the Endura is getting a little worn out from all the use and sharpening. So it's time for a new Spydie. I've looked at everything SOG, Benchmade, you name it but I keeping coming back to the Spydercos. I just can't break that trust/faith I have in my old Endura. I'm always looking at the latest and greatest on the market but I keep coming back to the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it". Now if I can just make up my mind.............. It's nice to have such a dilemma.

You've had good experience with the Endura, why don't you just get another? The new one's come with VG-10 blades that will hold an edge even better than the old model that you have. I can understand wanting to try something new. If you do, go forth the Military. I think that the Military is Spyderco's absolute best hard use model. Look around because you get Militaries is S30V already if you try.

IMO the Military is the best production knife going.

Welcome aboard. You could also check the other Spyderco Forum, I enjoy it even more than this one (more family like) ;)
The Endura is a great knife (too big for me, but as you are a LEO, I guess you don't have problems by carrying a big knife). Both the Endura and the Police come with VG-10 steel which is great.
If I understood well, there will be a CF (carbon fibre) Endura released in the not so distant future and you might want to try it. I have a CF Delica and I'm totally in love with it :D
The Military is a also a great alternative. The new S30V steel is marvelous! (Jerry Busse would like such steel for his knives) ;)

Yes, come over to the Spyderco.com forum, and we will put the kettel on and brake out the Sprite:D ;)
Get a new Endura in VG-10.

Hi Wedge. Welcome to the Spyderco forum and thanx for the story. Real stories are always good to hear and enjoy. We're glad to have been of service.

Wedge,

I've been in EMS for over a decade now and my EDC knives have always been Spydercos. Started out with a little SE Delica and has progressed to my current 440V Military. If you really liked the Endura, then you'll love the Military.

I'd say get the updated Endura. You are used to the ergonomics of that knife and are familiar with the blade length and design. When you are in a stressful situation it's best to have something with which you are comfortable.

Another one to think about is the (recently discontined) G-10 Police model (with the liner)...I just LOVE the Police models!

I'm going to a big knife show in southern Ohio this weekend. Never been to one but I'm looking forward to it. I think the best solution to my dilemma is to get one of each :) :D :) yea baby!!!!!!!! (Don't tell my wife)

I must confess, I just received a Benchmade Griptilian with a Mel Pardue blade today. It's really sweet. Does that make me a turncoat :(...... So many nice knives, so little disposable cash.....oh man I think I have a blooming addiction....Is there a 12 step program for this ??????????

My name is Wedge and I'm a Knife-A-holic.....:D ;) :D ;) :D ;)

I just ordered a Military PE with the S30V blade from www.888knivesrus.com/product/SC36 for $105.99. I got the BM AFCK and Starmate because of their excellent design but mostly because of their looks. I decided to get the Military purely on the fact this knife gets consistent rave reviews as a well made utility tool. The Military will be my constant EDC. If you have a hard time finding the S30V blade Military at the show this might be an option you could look into. The knife show will be a great way to find out exactly what you need and a bunch of others you just gotta have :p ;)

By the way is that a SIG P226 9mm as your avatar? Or the .357 version? Fantastic pistol in either caliber.
