Great Knives to Ask For as a Gift

So all my family members keep asking me what Knives I want for Christmas and I'm having a hard idea coming up with ideas. I was thinking maybe a Strider SMF but what are some other recommendations? I'm thinking maybe another Microtech or something (I have a Troodon),and I already have a Sebenza. I can go up to around $500.

Thanks

I think 500 bucks is a steep hill for someone to climb. Especially when they probably aren't a knife nut and wouldn't totally understand.
Victorinox, BUCK, or even Cold Steel. Keep it under 100 bucks.

A nice Case Slipjoint, Kershaw , Spyderco a knife that is nice and sturdy and US made. On the higher end a CRK Small Sebenza.

Spyderco Southard flipper, Sebenzas and Striders. If you ask for a Mora, you will likely get a Mora. I say go for it and ask for what you want. If someone really wanted to get me a nice gift, I wouldn't want them to waste their money on something I don't really want or need just for the sake of having something to give. Life's too short.

I think a CRK Umnumzaan ($425), A Strider SnG CC or SmF($475) or a Sacha Thiel The Officer ($310)... I would be happy with any of those

Those quite the pricey gifts there! But ESEE, Becker, Spyderco, and Zero Tolerance are all great and well below your price range. And even though I have no experience with them I hear that Busse knives are good too.

I'm a little farther down the food chain, my list will have spyderco gayle Bradley or starmate on it.

BK&T-KaBar-ESSE-Ontario-Buck-Mora, you can certainly pay more for some knives but not always get a better knife.

That's a nice price point for a gift! We keep our gifts under 30$.......... Why not get a nice custom for that much? You could get exactly what you want

Im asking everyone in my family for amazon gift cards. So i can get my spyderco titanium military thats on there. Ive been holding out awhile for this one.

You've got quite a collection. I say take a look at CRK's classy, but useful Mnandi. It's very easy on the eyes, but can serve as a viable EDC knife as well.

Yikes! My Pops carries a SAK, my Bro, a Mini Grip (only because I got it for him). They are totally convinced that that is all the knife you need as long as you're otherwise prepared ("which there's no reason to not be"). These other needed tools are typically not the best either. $500 For a knife!? Meanwhile they pay 10x me for their standard cost of living.

But if I was in your shoes I'd go for a SnG or SmF or a Busse of some sort. Maybe even a fancy Tomahawk. An RMJ, Strider, or similar custom.

Don't understand why people are telling him "its a gift dont be greedy"... come on guys.. hes told you what his family is willing to pay... plus he lives in the Big apple... so $500 dosn't go too far .... you walk into a supermarket and pay over $100 easy.. (i'd know b/c i live here)...

ANYWAY, to give you a few options i'd say the Strider SNG not SMF .. considering i liked the Sng in-hand alot better... get the gunner-grip model..?

Also you could get a sebenza with a nice damascus blade..?

How about a few different ESEE knives, Junglas + izula 2 + Esee 5?

The options are endless... those are a few i guess ;)

I'm always scared I get a crappy or useless knife like the Bear Grylls knives, a 20$ rambo knife with saw and hollow handle, a poorly made chinese EDC that falls apart when peeling an apple or a $200+ knife that doesn't get any pocket time because I dislike the style. I'm not greedy, but I'm more picky on knives nowadays. It should at least be practical and useable. An Opinel, SAK or Mora will already do, they're not that expensive. At least explain your likes and dislikes with some examples.

Wow. If I had a price limit up that high...well I'd have some cooler stuff lol.

Honestly i'd just ask for that amount in a giftcard to Bladehq. We can make suggestions but everyone has different tastes. At least then you can have time to decide for yourself. 1 or 2 really nice blades or a lot of cool gear at a lower price.

Tell 'em to give you cash and wait for the ECCKS. Maybe put yourself in for a Hinderer or hand pick your Strider.

Be specific with your generous family. All knife nuts have at least 2 or 3 we would love to have if it were free. There is nothing worse than over spending on a knife you don't like.
