Based on the resounding success of the inaugural Great Lakes Custom Knife Show, this year’s show moved to a new venue to accommodate twice as many knifemakers!
The larger space allowed for a transition to a quad table layout, which gives a bit of a different feel than the linear setup last year
One of the interesting features of this year’s show was the Wolfgang Loerchner Build Along and Knife Bingo. Wolfe designed the feature knife approximately 40 years ago and invited all makers at the show to create their own version of his design. The only parameters of the challenge were the size and profile while the execution and materials were left entirely up to the interpretation of the individual maker. Show attendees were invited to identify this knife on the table of all the makers who made one and get entered in a draw for a prize. I wanted to capture all of them before they got sold! (don’t worry, I didn’t enter the draw lol)
The full set included 10 knives from Wolfe, Jacco Van de Bruinhorst, Chris Hamelin, Justin Dale, Mike Mossington, Murray St. Amour, and Nathan Rodé
In addition to the Bingo knife, Wolfe brought an incredible selection of the types of small fixed blades he used to bring to Canadian knife shows. Not surprisingly, they all sold instantaneously.
Also on Wolfe’s table, one of his folders made available by a collector. I couldn’t resist doing another tactical knife comparison lol.
So what to cover next, tactical or more art knives? Hmmmm, ok art.
JVB brough some absolute stunners, with equally impressive displays. Here is another look at his Wolfe Bingo knife
Some other incredible pieces
I was most anxious to see his long and short sword set.
