Well it has been a few weeks now, (you didn't think I was going to let this go did you?) our first gathering was pretty darned good as far as turn out goes. I have a more complete list of interested parties now. We need to keep this thing going if we can. If anybody ever wants to initiate these things themselves my feelings will not be affected in any way (HINT! HINT!) ;)

Who is up to hosting a gathering in April or May?

Well if I get no takers at all, I will see if I can find a weekend to have it at my place again when it is warm. I could open the shop, set up some portable forges outside and we could play as much as talk. Either way I am not going to let this thing go.

I currently have a couple of volunteers for later in the spring and the summer, but if anybody has a large heated area in the meantime it would be great to keep the momentum going.

I thought it might be great to have folks who would like to demo or talk on specific subjects to let us know and we could set an agenda as well. OR bring a cool gadget- show and tell is really what it is all about.

Kevin, my shop is heated, though not spacious... I have been reluctant to offer to host one of these gatherings only because I don't forge, and I don't know how much interest there would be in the sort of work I do.

If that is not an issue, I will be glad to open my door at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16. Anyone planning to come, please shoot me an email at don@cowlesknives.com.

Hi Kevin I might be able to organize one for May some time I will have to see.

Either way i would love to attend the next one if you could put me on the list please.

Abe

Well, the show will go on. There are only two of us so far, but the rest of you are all welcome. Please let me know if you can make it, and I will send you a map.

I might be able to make it there on the 16th. How late are you going to stay open? I am picking up my runt and heading to Trenton on the 16th, but my daughter has a Cheerleading Convention Saturday morning so we are going to get a late start.

Let me know.

Also, I can volunteer the use of my shop in the future. It is in the basement, so it is semi-heated. Just give me a few weeks notice so i can clean up the "dump."

You make four, if you can make it. If there is continuing interest, we'll probably go until 5:00 or so.

Don:

I will send you an e-mail with an updated address list from our last get together, or I can send out the notice. I Should be albe to stop in on the 16th, if there is anything that folks would like me to discuss, it is fairly easy for me to organize myself, I just pull a couple of pages from one of my lecture outlines and go with it. I am more than happy to address any concerns or topics that folks have that I may be able to help with.

Don- I'd like to come on over also. I'm coming from the Kalamazoo area. Can you e-mail diections - thanks-Kevin Casey

Looking good, guys- half a dozen responses so far. I plan to open at 9, and close at 5- come in the side door, and bring a snack! I'm looking forward to it!

Well, plans have changed, amazingly for the better. I am going to be in the Detroit area on Friday so I will be at Don's place as early as possible on the 16th.

Hope to see you all there.

I woould like to make it this time but I wil be busy rushing to get some knives done for next weekend.

Please keep me in mind for the next time though.

Abe

I found this thread awfully late (of course), and being a total greenhorn I'm not even sure if I should be asking, but exactly where is this and is just any ol' body open for invite?
I would absolutely love to watch someone that actually knows what they're doing work with steel, as so far I'm just getting better at removing skin from my fingers and knuckles!
