I am hosting a primitive skills get together from August 17-19th of this year on Bois Blanc Island. This island is located in northern Lake Huron, in the Straits of Mackinac, 6 miles from the town of Cheboygan Michigan. Right where the Upper and Lower peninsulas of Michigan are closest.
We provide two good catered meals a day, fire wood, fresh water, portajohns, and great instruction ( at least six different classes a day), for a cost of $85, plus a fee for the ferry from Cheboygan. We are a non profit group, and any money left over, as well as the proceeds from our annual auction, go to the instructors.
I will post a more complete class list later, but I have quite a few classes lined up right now. We will have all the basics- fire, shelter, trapping, plant skills, cordage, etc., a bow building work shop, stone tools, navigation (day and night) birch bark containers, black ash baskets, atlatl making and a tournament, boomerangs and throwing sticks, and more will soon follow.
This Island is a beautiful place, and I am very proud of what we offer. I hope some of yall can make it. E-mail me at georgehedgepeth@hotmail.com for an info pack, registration forms, and maps. We will certainly show you a good time.
