If you love well made slip joint knives you should be looking at the work of new comer Rusty Preston, a student of Bill Ruple. Rusty's work will blow you away and it cost half of what you would expect.

AG:

Do you carry any of his knives? I looked on your website and couldn't find any made by him. Does he have his own website?

I saw him at the Knife Show in Little Rock and did not ask if he would give me a break so I could sell his knives, I just bought a couple and brought them home.

If I was selling them I do not think that I could have sstarted this thread.

Find him at http://prestoncustomknives.com

all the best,

A. G.

He does beautiful work! Do you have a ball park price range for his slip joints?

I discovered Rusty at this past years BLADE show. I chatted with him and his Wife for over an hour. Amazing work for the short amount of time that he has been making knives (a great Mentor that saw huge potential I'm sure helped).

I agree with AG about the Quality, the knives I handled however were Double Blades and were above $550 if I remember correctly (of course I have slept and dreamed of other knives since then). ;)

AG - Don't worry about that, if I remember correctly the ones I viewed had lots of very intricate Filework and had wonderful materials like Black Mother of Pearl (and of course my favorite - STAG).

But like I said, I certainly could be wrong! Please don't take my word on it.

A.G. Russell,Thanks for posting the link to Rusty's site, his knives certainly do look fabulous,

Great referral, A.G., thank you.

A couple of his fixed blades have grabbed my attention as well.

Rusty's work also speaks volumes about Bill Ruple. He mentored Don Morrow to produce the same apparent quality. And, both Don & Rusty also utilize Bill's filework pattern.

I am certain Bill is pleased for Rusty to be thought of so well. Thanks.

I just became a full time knife maker about a month ago and have been mentored by both Bill Ruple and Rusty Preston and they are both great guys. I like making big size tradional pattern slip joint knives. You guys can check out my work if you go to Arizona Custom Knives and look me up, my name is Enrique Pena. A lot of people have not seen this type of knive but is very popular in my area and was made by Old Timmer. Let me know what You Guys think of my work.

I met him at the Vegas show , his folders did not show the signs of anyone new to making folders. Very clean filework , and in my opinion were the best that I saw available at the show.
