So I posted a thread inquiring on the caly 3.5 and loved all the input I was getting. But something stops me from getting it, and its the clip orientation. I don't like tip up carry. The clip on my ukpk bothers my palm and the caly 3.5 will produce the same problem for me. So that's the only negative on it. So after doing more research and looking at the catalog, I found the native 5 and am really digging it. So hopefully you folks can provide some input or perhaps some comparisons between both.

I have a para2 and with the scarcity of any para2's, I refrain from using it for fear of losing it and not being able to score another one. So here I am, at the crossroads and need some help. Thanks fellas for being so patient with me.

Paramilitary 2's are always coming up on the exchange, I just sold a Digicam and an orange XHP one. I wasn't using them, so I let them go. On the smaller and slicer-type spydies that I have, the clip isn't really an issue since I don't grip them like I would a ZT or one of the larger Spydercos (Like a Military or Paramilitary 2). Maybe carry them clipless?

I can say only good things about Native5. I love the knife. Natives always had great ergos and changing grind to full flat IMHO only improved performance. The knife feels absolutely great in the hand. I used to EDC Caly3 and Caly3.5 for several years. As much a I love them, Native5 feels better in the hand, may be because it is little wide or heavier, and it kicked them out of my pocket. I still carry 2-3 knives, but N5 is most used. I absolutely love how does it go through cardboard. Sharpening is not an issue, but I didn't reprofile the blade yet. Should not be be any harder than S30V.

Para 2s aren't going anywhere. If you have one and like it, use it. Do you lose knives that often?

The wire clip on the Caly I can't imagine being a problem since it is so small and smooth. I can grip a knife in my hand really tight and barely feel the clip, if at all. My hand curves away from the handle enough that the clip fits right into the curved 'recess'. I know everyone's hand is different but can't imagine a hand conforming perfectly to a handle and not giving for the clip. I also like clips to be tip up because it allows me to hold and manipulate the knife with my finger tips and keep them out of the blade path by holding onto the clip.

This... Well said FMB.

Clearly the only sensible solution is to start using your Para 2 and to acquire both the Native 5 and Caly 3.5. That is what a man would do. :)

Which Para2 do you have? If it is a regular production, do not be afraid to use it at all. For one, it is meant to be used and supply will eventually catch up to demand.

You will not be disappointed with the Caly even if you dont prefer its clip orientation.

I dont want to overwhelm you with overly positive praise to confuse you even more but that is all I have on the N5 and I'll just leave it at that.

All I can say is, if they appeal to you, try them out. The very worse that could happen is you reselling it for little loss, a fair "fee" for trying them out.

well, just wanted to inform you fine folks that i ended up ordering the native 5 :)
will let you guys know when i get it...very excited

Cool...interested to see how you think it stacks up to the Para2.

Keep us posted.
