Great old thread: The Stubbie Bowie's origins

Remember we almost got an 800 pound Salyan because a 7/16 of an inch blade thickness somehow had turned to 7 inches by the time the kamis got the info. Thankfully the kamis questioned me before making it and told me the khukuri would be too heavy to use very well and that I should consider a thinner version.

Uncle Bill wrote that and I just read it....trust me I'm nearly incoherent right now!!! :D :foot:

I've been thinking of mounting a huge khuk on a spring in the bed of my truck. Then when some dip is tailgating in traffic I could hit a switch and split his engine into halves. This is the perfect design. An 800lb salyan is just what I need. What do you figure the shipping on that thing would be. Do you think they'd have lots of trouble with customs?

Andy, learn patience, it's easier to carry and won't get your face in the newspaper "Atlanta: In a bizarre turn of events Monday afternoon, a motorist on I-75 was attacked by. . . . . ."
Kis, dadgummit, why'd you have to bring up this thread just now? I'll start having nightmares about the sgian dubhs showing up from Bir Ghorka looking like Spanish cinquedas, fullers and all.  :D

Andy, I erroneously referred to it as a "Spanish Cinqueda". Too much coffee? Not enough? . It's actually a dagger style that originated in 15th century Italy. The name Cinquedea (corrected spelling) supposedly comes from the Italian "Cinque Diti" (five fingers), referring to it's blade being five fingers in width. The elaborate fullering was a common feature.

Are the fullers what holds it in the sheath? Any good vendors. Ever hunt deer with one?:D

Pick up a stick, or whatever's lying about handy that won't inflict serious damage. Now knock yourself over the head with it. Feel better? You're welcome. :grumpy: :D
