Great pics from John Powell

I like the grain on that rhino horn.

Those are probably illegal to have in my country. Can I get a simulated rhino horn handle?

Yeah, it's all about how deep you pockets are..:D

It's not how rich you are really, it's how much free money you have.

Most rich people I know, have less money to spend than I do because of their bills they pay every month. They want to live rich and that costs alot of money. I like to live within my means and have the money to buy what I want when I want to.

Bill, only you know how rich I really am. You're supposed to keep it a secret.

Free money? Ha. ALL my money goes into kukris or trying to get this book completed....

Thank you Stephan for posting the pictures. I hope all the interested forumites enjoy them.

JFK used to have to borrow a dime from pals when he wanted to make a call on a pay phone. Anybody else besides me remember when pay phones cost a nickle? And, believe it or not, I can remember when the Home Cafe in Cherokee, KS used to serve up a burger, fries and coke for 15 cents.

Pretty......pretty, pretty, pretty, pretty

John,

Any prognosis on that book? I suspect it will be loaded with hundreds of these great photos.

Rod, thank you for your nice compliment. Hopefully you will have a lot more pictures to look at.

N2: I am very close to getting an agreement from a private party about the funding. I hope to have started work by the end of January and it will take about 5-6 months from there to have it available for sale. Some forums have agreed to make it available and it will probably be available via one other large distributor if we can sign a deal.

Initially, it will be part of a 2 book series in a slipcase: "Islamic Weapons-Magreb to Moghul (a collector's guide)" about 375 pages and "from Khookree to Kukri(and all spelling in between)" about 150 pages. There will also be about 160-175 pics of kukris and koras. Eventually I hope to produce a soft cover version and sell it seperately to make it more available to more people. It all depends how well the first 5000 sell.

Everything is written, but is waiting on more editing. Some of the design on mine is done, but cannot start photography till some $$$ start showing up.

Yes, it is finally going to happen. Mistakes and all, but at least it's more than is out there right now. Keep your fingers crossed for a signed agreement since that means it will get done.

I don't want to sound like a prophet of doom but I'd seriously consider cutting down the first run to more like a thousand than five. As mentioned there are bound to be errors and better to have second and third editions to ferret out the inevitable mistakes. Second, a first run will finance a second run and second will finance third and down the line. I know the more you run the cheaper it gets -- maybe. It's a heartbreaker to have 4700 copies in the closet gathering dust.

Think it over. If you want to kick this around some, John, feel free to buzz me.

John: Are those flowers in the spine drilled totally thru the khuk? If so that pierced design is cool.

"private party about the funding."--Fundinng?!?! I thot you were rich. Why not buy a publisher, or jsut buy a press and the workers to do it? With your own publishig houuse, you could get others to publish under your banner as well! Then you could be rich AND famous!

Hey, that's what I'd do If I could afford gold fitted khuks. Oh, and I'd make certain offers on real estate in about five countries.

Live your dreams, John...sounds like you're almost there!

I patiently await the book as well, as I've seen pics in books and on websites that i'm pretty sure are Khuks in your collection...It's always been my dream to leave the workd with "The Sauers Collection" -- it would be a museum of art, armor and weaponry from all over the globe. Currently, only about half a dozen countries are represented, and only a few ancient pieces are threre, but I'm young still.

John,

That sounds like a great book set.

When you get around to getting a firm handle on the production alternatives, it might be worth while to start collecting orders for the books in advance of publication. That would give you some idea on the real interest level out there (i.e. how many to produce) and having some firm orders in your pocket can certainly help your barganing position. It's easier for a publisher to sponsor 5000 copies when they know that 500 of them have already been pre-sold through fairly basic marketing channels.
