great roughing out green wood video

Nice video. If you are using a forest axe in the woods one thing I find useful is to sit down and tuck the handle into your armpit almost, then swing the axe as if it were a hammer arm. It's very machine like, but saves the problem of the handle getting caught up against your clothes when trying to use the axe like a carving hatchet. It is not quite as smooth or precise as the carving hatchet, but saves energy and can be better sometimes when removing lots of material.

Just something I've learned, but I'm also just a newb.

JB, I really like using hatchet's for roughing out bows. I have a band saw that can do the work in a fraction of the time, but it is so relaxing and lets me really get to know the piece of wood that I an working with.

I usually will work with a small hewing hatchet because I like the single beveled edge and the off set head. I will add a little off set to the handle when I hang them also.

I want to share this one with you guys. Its a new old stock Plumb that has never been hung. I have had it for quite a while now and have finally decided that its going to get used this spring. It has a hardened poll, nail slot, off set head for a righty and a curved bit that you just don't find on a pure hewing hatchet.

The red you see is on the head is from chalk that was in the same box as the axe.
