Today after work I was on my way home and had an urge to pull into a local pawn shop to look around.

I go directly to the knife counter and start to look at all the old wore out knives that they had.

One caught my eye as it was a USA made Uncle Henry Trapper model for 29 bucks. I told him 20 bucks even and we have a deal. He came back with a 24 dollar counter offer when I told him it is too much and then I noticed a Spyderco. I am not a Spyderco person but my son does EDC a Military with camo handles and black coated CPM S30V blade.

I told him forget the Uncle Henry and lets look at the Spyderco.

I figured it would be some lower end with a serrated blade and probably beat to death and all loose.

He hands it to me and I realized it had a CPM S30V blade and that it was in good shape. No slack and no chips. I look at the price and it is $39.99. I told him I would give him $40 including tax. He took the deal.

I am guessing it is a Paramilitary. My son's Military is G10 handle material but no scales. This has some kind of metal scales with either micarta handle material or G10 handle material. It is shaped just like my son's military but only smaller.

I will post pictures soon but I am wondering if this was a good deal. I am almost sure it was as I looked on the auction sites and the "sold" ones were at $90 to $120.

What is so awesome is I was looking for a boot knife and I was thinking of getting a Military but I am more than happy to use this as my new boot knife.

I will post pictures in a minute after I take a few but is this a Paramilitary and is the handle material micarta or G10?

Here it is without being cleaned up.......

Next to my son's Military.......

A little blurry but notice how his has no scales but just G10 handles and mine has some kind of metal scales with G10 handle material. I do not understand why they do that.

I am guessing that the engravings on mine are the last owners initials but I can not figure out what it stands for, any guesses?

Does indeed sound like a Paramilitary or Paramilitary 2.

Sorry brother, thats a fake. The liners arent nested and its a liner lock rather than compression lock.

Sorry to tell you that is neither a Paramilitary 2 or a Military. It is not even a legit Spyderco, you have some sort of badly executed clone there. I'm sure others will corroborate this. :(

If I'm not mistaken the engraving on the blade is Sal and Eric's makers symbols (owner and son of Spyderco).
Although Sal's looked a bit off.

Well now it looks like I have a fake. Its ok, I will still enjoy it.

Where do these fakes come from?

I thought the thumb ramp looked a little wonky in the third pic. Should still make a fine boot knife.

I guess it was too good to be true. Even small town middle America is subject to fakes.

Would the steel be CPM S30V or would that be faked also?

What do these fakes go for and where do you find them at?

Oh I know ;)
I was just answering the engraving question before the rest of the posts had loaded.

IT DONT EVEN HAVE GIMPING!!!

WHAT IF NUTNFANCY PULLS ME OVER AND MY KNIFE HAS NO GIMPING???

THIS IS A TRAVISTY!!!

For Sale! Slightly used fake knife, just take it so I can look my mom in the eyes again without being shamed.

Think I should take it back.

I just realized that the USA made Uncle Henry looked way too good to be old enough to be USA made and pawn shops always check sold prices on ebay, they know it was counterfeit.

Should I let the authorities know about it or just cut my loses?

For $40 the cops will probably just slap the hands of the pawn shop owner, and he can always use "I had no idea that was a fake"

I would just see if it can keep an edge and use the heck out of it and chuck it in the trash after

Agree but I know the owner knew as he would have had a $90 to $120 price tag on it if it was real, but he knew it was not.

I am trying to get an edge on it right now. If it holds one I am going to keep it until I find somebody who wants a fake one for $40.

That would be the right logic

you can buy the fake ones, even better than that one, for way less than $40.00. Sorry man, return it if you can, otherwise it's yours.

I would pay to hear a recording of that phone call.

Something tells me that the cops wouldn't be all that interested in a pawn shop selling a $40 counterfeit pocket knife. They might feel that they have better things to do. You might give the cop on the phone a good laugh though, and a funny story to tell the other cops. :D
